They use standard, disposable medical equipment.
It's an off the shelf solution, and as such is packaged sterile.

Both because it's standard procedure and because there have been a few times in the past, where the needle has been injected and then the execution has been delayed/called off before the lethal mixture is injected.

Sterilization of needles is performed for protection (from infections) - both patients and doctors. In this case, "patient" actually doesn't need protection from infection, but those who handle with needles (stay alive) do. Accidents happened, doctor that perform execution (or someone from staff) could, for example, accidentally hurt himself with a needle. Or if there was no needle sterilization, prisoner could purposely hurt staff as a "one last revenge". Imagine how would those hurt, infected people live rest of their lives. They could even die from some infections (HIV, hepatitis...) Besides protection of "clumsy" staff and from angry prisoners, it is much easier to handle sterilized needles than non-sterilized. I mean, you would have to be very careful where to put that needle and not to spread infection.
So, the reason for sterilizing needles are those who stay.

Because it doesn't make sense to set up a production line of non-sterilised needles purely for lethal injections, when it's cheaper just to buy off-the-shelf sterilised ones.

Needles are not sterilised purposely for lethal injections, they have to comply with safety regulations for the people who work with them, and also for people who need injections for all sorts of reasons.

Guessing here, but if for some reason the execution had to be stopped and postponed, it effectively eliminates the possibility of an infection from the needle, which could be construed as "cruel and unusual" punishment.
Please don't flame me, I am taking no position on capital punishment here.

The needles are ready-sterilized when placed in the packet, at the factory.

I think they sterilize needles so they can reduce the risk of a virus from spreading.(That is if the person executed is carrying a dangerous virus in the 1st place)
