People who have tattoos on their lower back are often all thrown into this category of being slutty. Im a rather large guy with a few tattoos and have one on my lower back ( city outline of where i live) and people still give me crap about it. The thing that sucks though is that alot of young immature girls are getting it simply becuase ever teeny bopper pop princess has it. So yes it sucks that it is reffered to as a tramp stamp but you must understand where it is coming from.

'Tramp Stamp' is a throw back from the '70s before the current tattoo craze.
You must know tattoos were much less common on women. Many tattooed 'chix' then were the more adventurous, open-minded and promiscuous types (tramps). The tattoo over the ***-crack was popular among some of this set (porn stars, groupies, strippers etc.) and since the tattoo was 'stamped' on the girl's low back, it was (and is) perceived that it was for the viewing pleasure of a partner mounting from behind (how naughty).
Obviously, all types get tattooed now, but the name will always stick for that particular tattoo. In general, tattooed women still tend to be more sexually liberated / promiscuous to this day, thus the 'Tramp' moniker continues to hold for the most part.
It is a classic type of tattoo for women these days, sexy and well loved by many.

I don't have a lower back tattoo, but I do have 2 others so yes, I do hate that reference. To be perfectly honest, its getting old. I also hate it when people answer questions in this section with 'tattoos are trashy and distusting' and the like.
I guess they are getting the 'tramp stamp' reputation because heaps of younger girls have them for the purpose of showing them off in hipster pants.

I am with you! I got my first tattoo on my lower back because I really like the look of a tattoo on the lower back. I am by no means a tramp either, it's just a matter of preferance where you want to place your tattoo.

I still giggle a bit when I see one because I think of the name. I don't believe all women with them are tramps, but at the same time, I do feel that area of the body is just as over played as the ankle.
I think that as long as you did what you were happy with then it doesn't matter.
I'm called 'cattle' or 'livestock' by people who see me with my septum piercing, but I am by no means a gross animal that wallows in its feces and filth. I've just learned to not care anymore. I did what I wanted to do.

I totally agree with you I have 3 tattoos and one with my husbands name and a tribal with it on my lower back. I turned to the person and said why would you say something like that? They were like what I was I have 2 kids a husband and have been happily had complete monogamy with him for our entire relationship.. You don't know me and until you do I suggest you keep things like that to your self. That shut him right up. I hate ignorance. And that's just what people who say stuff like that are.

I sure do!! I have two tats, and I have been called that before, it hurts!! I have two kids, and I am afraid that someone will call me that in front of them someday. I just want them to know that art on skin is still art, and a personal way to express one's self.
Besides, It costs money to get one done professionally. If you have a tat that means that you can support yourself enough and still have extra to make yourself more beautiful!!
I know how you feel!

I think any stereotype is bad. It's very unfortunate that they have developed this trampy reputation. Anyone that judges you based solely on your tattoo doesn't deserve to know you. "tramp stamps" got their nickname from their popularity with strippers.

Hmmm...Interesting. Never heard that reference before. I like tats on a chick. Some people are just up tight and stuck in a different time. I wouldn't wory aout it. If you know better and it sounds like you do, don't worry. But I see your point. Hope you get a better answer than mine.
