Because they misunderstand anorexia and think it's an easy way to be thin - if they knew the details they wouldn't want to be.

I was anorexic during my entire junior year of high school. It started so innocently.. I'd broken up with my bf and was upset and couldn't eat for a few days.. I noticed I'd lost weight, and then it was a downward spiral from there. When you are already in an "anorexic state of mind", it's hard to think that anything else out there is right. It is most definitely a mental disease, and people who are anorexic seek support from others, and are always trying to find new ways to stay thin and continue their problems. It seems crazy, I know, and to me today it seems crazy... but sadly, back in high school.. those sites would've been not crazy in the least to me.

I've never become anorexic myself, but I have toyed with the idea and can understand where many of them are coming from. Since today's culture is obsessed with people (especially women) being thin, people who aren't thin feel a lot of pressure to become so. Anorexia is a quick (albeit extremely dangerous) way to become thin. I know some people who have struggled with anorexia, and they have told me that the reason they do it is because they hate how they look.

I know it isn't easy for those that have never suffered the condition to understand but, like depression, anorexics have a illness - it is not a choice they make to want to be thin. This is why it is so hard for them to overcome - its not just a matter of saying 'OK - I dont want to be skinny any more'.
If you have a friend that is suffering try to get them professional help - it could be what saves thier life!

I think anorexia is like cancer, you don't choose it, it happens . . . people, usually girls, who have an aversion to fat & soft female tissue really have 2 choices; they can exercise and be like an olympic athlete (have hard muscles) or try to stop eating to get rid of it. Of course the insanity is really a slow death because they end up skin on skeletons with malfuntioning organs.
Maybe if more of them could spend some time in the hospitals where they have to care for near death anorixics, it might be a wake-up call. It is gory & ugly so maybe they would decide it is not a good place to end up. maybe

It really is a sickness. I know people make fun of anorexia but really the woman think they are HUGE when they are so skinny. Its so sad. It usually starts small and then they just go out of control. Usually they like the control and they think they should be even more skinny (we have the media to thank for that)

How many of us see ourselves as we truly are..
So many people in life are so unhappy and are looking for something to make them feel better.
When you hate no matter who it is you will turn against them, even yourselves.
What does hate bread???? Hate breads more hate.
Is an anorexic a self hater - Not always
For all these that encourage Anorexic behavior, could it be hate that drives them, hate for others but mostly hate for themselves

Most models are skinny and since people view models as beautiful, some people feel pressured to be skinny also. So they don't eat food and starve themselves. It's sad that the media praises the stick-thin.

It's a subculture just like any other. People don't want to feel isolated in their way of life--even if their way of life is harmful to themselves or others. For example, drug addicts usually hang out with other drug addicts.
People become anorexic because they want to be skinny.....'nough said!

people who are aneorexic usually don't want to be... in fact they are usually in denial about their condition. They believe they are fat and disgusting looking and the only solution is to stop eating, which of course is not the answer. If you try to tell them there is something wrong with and they have an eating disorder, they will deny it because they don't think anything is wrong.
