You don't have to use a sun lamp. You can get a light lamp which can be affective. check out the bellow site.

At this very moment I am suffering severly with S.A.D. I have done for years - but now seems to be the worst ever, which I don't understand - since the sun in shining here, and that usually helps.
I have tried many things over the years. The last being - just ignore it and get on.... but this is impossible. It is totally uncontrollable as far as I am concerned. TODAY (even tho I was not ACTUALLY crying) I have had tears rolling down my face all morning & soaked a tissue just keeping my face dry.
This all sounds so pathetic - but it is, I can assure you, absolutely true.
A LIGHT BOX - does help. I have one, and it transforms you onto a sunny beach; however, I find, that when you switch it off, particularly on very grey, dull days, it puts you back worse than before.
You can buy them second-hand. I have to say, this has been about the best remedy I've found.
Tip
~ Wherever you go - out for dinner, to a pub, whatever - always sit by the window or under a light.
~ Echinacea is supposed to be good
~ If all else fails - I'm afraid Prozac works (for some anyway) - its a last resort.

I used to go to work in the dark , be indoors all day and then return home in the dark , so I can sympathise with you ! Take every chance you can to get some outdoors natural light whenever you can fit it in to your day . (easier said than done I know ) Save up for that light box ! Plenty of pastimes that take your mind off the winter outside . A winter break abroad if you can fix it ! Good company , a glass or two of your favourite tipple . As the clocks go back , may I wish you good luck, after all, you know that spring is just around the corner , that's your winter mantra !!

The change in seasons never affected me until I moved into my own place.

I don't get S.A.D. but I find it quite depressing to leave in the dark and come home in the dark. I live on the ground floor and so my curtains don't get opened until the weekends in winter! I also don't get to look at my garden properly, or the river flowing past the bottom until Saturday morning.

If you have a nine to five - try and adjust your hours so you can go in mater one day or come home earlier once a week for example and try and be outside in the daylight. I know that these are small suggestions. But these are the things that get me down in winter.

I work shifts, so also have a mild form of this. An extreme solution might be to book a trip on a budget airline to a sunnier place.

I find that just looking forward to such a break helps, and it can be surprisingly cheap, too.

Try to get outside a couple of times a day for twenty minutes or so,even a little daylight can help. Also try and have a few nice things to do a couple of times a wk,maybe meet up with friends or an evening class, something for you to look forward to. Just be kind to yourself.

I have the same thing and the sun lamp definitely helped, but getting out during the day to get as much sunlight as possible, take your multivitamin and maybe melatonin before bedtime.

Take lots of exercise and fresh air. A quick blast on a sunbed every now and again also works wonders. Also, take vitamin D, it's said to be good.

Maybe visiting a tanning bed for just a couple of minutes once a week would do the trick for you.
