I have tried Norton and McAfee, and I like Norton best

Why? are you testing trial versions?

Then, you're going to need anti-malware.
Don't forget, something for spybots!
And, then, there are Trojans, adware, and vulnerabilities.

Yes, "114,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions" includes many of those, plus there are several new ones, each week. So, there are constant updates of all the above to track.

THINKING "OUTSIDE THE BOX", by Microsoft

Microsoft.com, Hotmail.com, MSN.com and the Redmond Campus all run on 45,000 Linux computers. They now are un-concerned about "114,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions"

And, Linux is FREE, runs upto 50X faster, and each machine replaced 12 Microsoft servers, and 1.3 technicians. The bean counters rejoiced. That dumped the pension fund of $11.8Billion back into shareholder dividends, after the dust settled.

Kaspersky is supposed to be really good (It's a little more expensive though). I've tried McAfee, Trend Micro, and Norton and wasn't pleased with any of those. Trend Micro was slow, Norton was even slower and McAfee screwed with my system. You can download a free trial of Kaspersky at the link below...

If you are looking for a purely trial version then I have to echo Kaspersky, it's simply the best you can get, small footprint, best scanner.

If you want to try a free version of Kaspersky then get the Active Virus Shield (made by AOL but powered by Kaspersky), http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp

Try out NOD32 by Eset. Best AV program I've tried and doesn't take up a lot of resources like Norton products do. And I've tried Norton AV, nothing but bloatware.

AVG is totally free and it's not a trial version. Continuous updates and it has a scan scheduler.
