Why use all that toxic stuff that, I guarantee, you'll get a cold or the flu within ten days of using toxic bombs, etc., when you can use a safer product that won't make you sick, but, will certainly kill the fleas. If you want to make a couple of phone calls to some of your local health food stores, ask for Diamatsicus Earth (I know I spelled this incorrectly) or DE for short. It is a powder. There are two kinds. Do not use the kind for outdoor pool maintenance.

How it works: It is made from ground shells, which penetrate the insects hard outer shell, causing them to dehydrate and then die. It never expires either. Just spread it lightly around the baseboards, and after vacuuming, in the carpet. You won't have to leave your house either. What a bonus that is.

Also, treat the lawn with lime. You can get it at a home building supplier (Home Depot, etc) or garden supply stores. You just put it in a plastic gallon container, like a milk jug, and put holes in the bottom and fill the container with the lime. Then shake it around the yard, or use a fertilizer spreader, if you have one. Do this in the spring and fall and your chances of fleas in the house will be minimized greatly.

If all this sounds like too much, then go to the website below for products that will kill fleas, but won't make you sick.

You might want to try Frontline on your cat. It will greatly help in the reduction of fleas.Or for a more natural approach, go to:

Only Natural Pet Store (Search online for their site)

They have products that are non toxic to put on your cat that really work.

Hi Calvin. Here is the answer I posted for a similar question a little while ago... Good luck!

To win the battle on fleas, you must wage war on TWO fronts - your pets and your home. Let me start by saying do NOT use any over-the-counter flea products. One, they do not work well and two, they have a high incidence of adverse effects. I've seen too many kitties come into our cat clinic barely able to breathe after having an OTC flea remedy applied. Our clinic recommends Advantage for active infestations (I've heard good things about Frontline as well, we just don't carry it at our place). It works, is safe and only need be applied once a month. Keeping pets on flea prevention year-round (yes, even in winter) is the best way to go.

To kill fleas in the house, first start by vacuuming EVERYTHING. Immediately dispose of the vacuum bag OUTSIDE your house in a sealed container. If you have a bagless, empty the canister outside and use a flea spray in the canister and the trash. (Also, the only good use for flea collars is placing them in vacuum canisters!) Put anything that can be washed in the washing machine. After all this, get a safe, effective flea spray for the house. Our clinic recommends and sells a product called Knockout ES Area Treatment. Sprays are much more effective than bombs because bombs only settle on TOP of things. You need a spray you can direct into those pesky flea hiding places like UNDER your couch and between seat cushions.

If you fight the war on both fronts with effective products like those mentioned, you should be able to win the war on fleas!

get a powder that you can sprinkle on your carpet, we had fleas not too long ago, and leave the powder on your carpet for 24 hours, but make sure when you put it on you use a broom and brush it deep into your carpet, it will kill those fleas for sure! and make sure you wash everything in your house the sheets, clothes that are exposed to fleas, ect. and after you do that to your carpet, the next day steam clean it, and your worries will be over, just make sure you dont let that cat in your house anymore, and you might want to give the inside of your car a wash too, cause fleas jump off of you and into your car too.

Rent a rug doctor or borrow someones carpet and furniture shampooer and put some flea soap in the water. Make sure you take it out side to dump it. I would do it again in like a week to make sure they are gone, also you need to treat the cat as well

My vet suggested a product called flea busters. They are a company that will come to your home and safely treat your carpet. Again, my vet recommended this and said it is safe around my dog and cat. You can also buy their produts online and do it yourself... The website may be fleabusters.com but if not check a search engine and you will find them. He said the company has been around for years and works wonders.

you can try it yourself, but you won't be able to kill the nits (eggs) and once they hatch the cycle will start all over again. I highly recommend a professional exterminator.
