A dental hygienist program is an associates degree program that requires at least 2 years of college. You will have to take math, science, and chemistry classes. If your skills are not that great, you can still do it. What you'd need to do is take advantage of all the study resources available to you. Attend math and science labs, join study groups, and never be afraid to ask your instructors for help when you don't understand something. Then STUDY! Forget about parties on the weekend and other things that aren't going to help you. You'll be able to do all that stuff when you finish, and you'll be able to enjoy yourself more when you know you have an education and a decent job.

Dental Hygiene is a great career BUT the education required is rigorous, the work is physically and mentally challenging and you really have to want to do it in order to be successful.

It is a career that rarely provides benefits such as medical insurance or pension. Physically it can be very hard on your hands, shoulders and back. You need a very strong stomach as you will be working with people, some of whom rarely brush their teeth and it is the job of the Dental Hygienist to motivate them and deal with their oral hygiene issues. If the sight of blood is a problem for you then look elsewhere for a career.
