This happens due to centrifical force. Holding your arms down and letting them swing forces blood to your hands. It happens to a lot of people. Especially when they first start a walking program. Try holding you arm with your elbows bent a a 90 degree angle and the problem should go away immediately. It isn't a sign that anything is wrong.

This is perfectly normal Rosita. I used to go on hiking trails being from scenic Cape Town, South Africa and when i went out the first time, i noticed that my fingers had swollen and i kinda felt like my fingers had turned to robotic like extremities. it is as other people have said, when you walk, and you are in that position with your hands swinging as per normal when you walk, the blood seem to gather in your hands and slow down there, causing swelling. I can't explain why, because if blood wasnt gravity defying, it would never reach our brains, and we certainly dont stop thinking when we're out for a walk! what a disaster that would be!
well, what i do know is that when the body is hot (like in summer, or due to physical exercise) the veins in the hands and feet seem to swell up more. If you lift your hands in the air, note that the veins fall flat back into your hands almost immediately. It does have something to do with gravity, but good ole Isaac Newton had to go and specialize in an apple, and not, as might have been a bit more interesting, the hands and feet.
What used to help me was when I walked i would "rest" my hands in either a jacket pocket, or on top of my bag which i kept on one side and then alternated every half hour or so (by slinging the backpack over the other shoulder and resting the other hand on top of it). If this doenst help, i'll eat my backpack?

Walk with you arms at 90 degrees... Hahahaha. .. You will look so stupid..suffer the fat fingers!
I've spent the past 10 minutes trying to think of a witty reply to this. Despite the apparent ease with which I would normally be able to reply, you have me completely stumped!. I don't know the reason and I can't think of anything stupid to type. Please give me 10 points to ease the pain and I hope your fingers go down soon, or you won't be able to get one up your nose.... I got a silly answer after all..... Yippeeeeeee....

your getting your blood flowing faster, and you probably aren't drinking water. mine do this too and then iget somewhat dizzy, so you need to stop and sit down for a few minutes. also, drink a ton of water! you will have to pee like crazy, but it helps with your swelling ofyour fingers.

Same thing happens to me. It is caused by your arms swaying back and forth. It forces the blood in your arms to flow downward to your hands. Try to keep your hands up when you walk.
