Well, in the Old Testament those people who lived before Jesus knew God without having Him living among us. They had an unshakable faith that drove them to the heart of God and therefore God blessed them.
Some of those people will go to Hell because they did not follow God and the laws that were set before them. They made decisions and took the chances to be separated from God forever.
In the New Testament Jesus (God Living With Us) decided to take the opportunity to become poor and show us the proper way to live with and for God. When Jesus came down from Heaven - He satisfied the previous prophecies that were written and let everyone know that the death of Jesus Christ satisfied all that of the Old Testament and we no longer have to perform sacrfices as we read about in those Older books of the Bible.
Jesus was the slain lamb so we could once and for all be reconcilled with God the Father and have a true relationship like those of the Old Testament writings.

Revelation 1:18 Jesus has the keys to death and hell. Hell is nothing more than the common grave of mankind, all go there when they die, even Jesus did, and the Bible says that hell is going to be emptied. Jesus said that all in their memorial tombs would here his voice and come out. We do not have an immortal soul, Ezekiel 18:4 says that the soul that is sinning, it itself would die. We are not going to heaven but are going to live forever on a restored paradise earth, only a small number go to heaven to serve as preists and kings and rule with Jesus over the earth.

I'm a Christian.
Satan is the prince of Darkness - not hell. In the Book of Revelation, it says that Satan (the Dragon, Anti-Christ, and Hades) will be thrown into the lake of burning sulfur. He WILL NOT be Lord over it. He is going there to face eternal punishment - just like all of the other unrepentant human souls - for rebelling against God. An angel, like the Son of God, holds the keys to the pit. (This too is mentioned in the Book of Revelation.)
As for people born before Christ, they had the Old Testament covenant. They had to make sacrifices with animals - with a priest present. But our Lord Jesus Christ, the perfect Lamb of God, lay down his life and ended this form of repentance. Now all we have to do is pray to Jesus for forgiveness of our sins.

i am not really sure what you are asking.
Rev 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive forevermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
this is speaking of Christ not Satan.
when Christ died on the cross his blood reached back as well as it does forward.
read Hebrews chapter 11, Heb 11:39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
Christ was not in any of their times made known in the flesh.

Before Christ died for our sins, humans could not rid their own sins until Jesus' pure blood was shed for them.
