If you want hair to grow faster, you have to take supplements that work on your body chemistry to support hair's growth and strength at its genesis.....once it has grown out, it is just dead keratin
Try GNC, they make a supplement called "Nourishair" in formulas for men and women..they are HUGE pills and you have to take 2 daily. There is also a "Hair skin and nails" formula from Andrew Lessman that you can google, that has great ingredients and is easier to swallow, made by ProCaps labs. You can also take large doses of Biotin, sometimes called Vitamin H, take no less than 2500 micrograms daily to support healthy hair growth. It may take 6 to 8 weeks to see results.
As to the cost of Nourishair, it is about 10 dollars for a one month supply.

There's nothing you can apply to your hair, nothing you can eat or drink, no pill to take, that makes your hair grow faster. Eat healthy. People who are bulimic, anorexic, or just eat junk find their hair grows more slowly and may be in poorer condition because of their nutritional habits. Split ends are the enemy of growth. People who claim their hair doesn’t grow usually have so many split ends their hair is breaking off at about the same rate it’s growing. Get a trim once every two or three months. Tell the stylist you’re growing it out and want nothing more than the ends evened out and damaged ends removed. Don't color, tint, perm, straighten, or bleach your hair. This is huge, since even the gentlest products dry the hair shaft, making it more prone to splitting. Take it easy on tangles--no yanking. Since shampoo is drying, shampoo only when you need to. Use as little shampoo as possible, and apply it only where the hair’s dirty, usually the scalp part. Lean forward to rinse if your hair’s shoulder length or longer, so the ends get no shampoo on them. Shampoo immediately after swimming in a chlorinated pool. Condition your hair whenever you shampoo. Use a product which promises moisture renewal or hair health. Once a week use additional conditioning products which you leave in for several minutes, then rinse out. (Tip: Apply none to the scalp area and the products will not flatten your hair.) You can expect 1/2 inch of growth per month, possibly more.

The natural supplement MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is your answer. It's a naturally occurring sulfur that's present in small amounts in many foods and beverages.
The only caution is that it can thin your blood sometimes although for most of us that's not a problem at all. Only if you're on some kind of blood-thinner prescription (like Coumadin) or if you're a free-bleeder (a hemophiliac).
MSM is usually taken to relive aches and pains from arthritis but it's big 'side effect' is faster growing hair and nails (thicker too from my experience.)
Dosage vaires but 500-1000mg or 1-2 capsules is a common range. As with any supplement tell you doctor what you're taking and note how you feel. If you feel better keep going, if not stop. It works best when combined with a little vitmin c so eat an orange slice or some fruit w/it or get the kind w/vita c already in it.
You can get it (capsule form is best) for under $12 at all health food stores or places with a good selection of vitamins and supplements. I believe most major drugstores would have it too.
My favorite source is online at the link below. Best prices and very quick service.

A daily multi-vitamin will help (Centrum is a good choice). Eating healthy also plays a big part in hair growth. Eat a diet rich in dairy, vegetables, lean meats, fish...you get it. Externally, nothing will make it grow faster (so the shampoo you use will not affect growth). Hair growth is internal, so as I said--eat healthy and take your vitamins. I would not recommend Garnier Fructis as a daily shampoo--it's not very well made. Try some products by TiGi, Redken, or Biolage to keep it healthy on the outside.

Thats a good line. I really prefer Bumble & Bumble. I use their products and it's wonderful. They have special products for any type of hair. Also they have a vitamin spray that keeps your hair healthy. You might want to consider using their line, the only problem is their products are sold through only certain hair salons. You cant just go buy it from any store.
