sometimes i feel sudden panic that if the person i am with has to leave..even just to go to work..that i am never going to see them again..i get clingy and tearful and it makes the person push me away as nothing makes me feel better. it's really horrible and i use lots of strategies to try to make it go away but i'm left with 24 hours of feeling sick and panicky. Many years ago someone tried to kill me and i remember thinking if i didn't fight back i'd never see my loved ones again. i had lots of councelling and it was 15 years ago..it can't be to do with that by now surely? any advice?

It could well be linked to this awful thing that happened to you. At least you're normal in that you show love and empathy towards others. I get tearful when my sons leave for a while, and they're grown up, this is just because I'm a Mum. You may need to speak to your Dr. (not because you're mad) as you clearly aren't. You just shouldn't have to cope with such pain nowadays, without some extra boost. You sound like a truly caring person, who has been hit by life's cruelty, it's your turn to receive some love and support. Let life carry you for a while, you deserve it!

You're probably obsessive compulsive. one of the symptoms of OCD is a fear of losing loved ones. Do you also have an irrational fear of the destruction of fire? Even if you don't, you prolly still have the OCD.
The other option to what you're experiencing...and prolly what most people would assume would be a phobia. Perhaps this is what you have, since you have been traumatized in the past. My guess would be that your past is definitely affecting your present. What is my suggestion? Get back into counseling...tell them of your new fears. There is a lot that can be done with your irrational fear...
I hope this works out for you.

Well if you really want to stop feeling the way you do, Here is a little soulution for you to try, Go to a hotel just for the weekened, and stay all by yourself, just alone, shut off the phones, and tell the manager you dont want to be disturbed, And if you dont panic, Then you will be alright, But dont worry about the past always look towards the future

The trauma really effected you you should probably see a pychiatrist because this problem wont go away or you may want to get a concealed weapons permit and a gun that will give you a real sence of security but if I where you I would do both

Sounds like Boarderline Personality Disorder, but I am not a psychologist or psychiatrist.

According to http://psychcentral.com/ the symptoms of BPD include:

"Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment
A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation
Identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self
Impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., spending, sex, substance abuse, reckless driving, binge eating)
Recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, or threats, or self-mutilating behavior
Affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria, irritability, or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days)
Chronic feelings of emptiness
Inappropriate, intense anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g., frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights)
Transient, stress-related paranoid ideation or severe dissociative symptoms"

sounds like it is to do with your previous trauma. maybe something has set it off again? try and see your GP and get some more counselling. sounds like u r having panic attacks and they can be treated with cognitive behavioural therapy which will help you think about situations in a difft way so you dont get panicky and scared.

go get advice and support now before it impinges on yur life any further.

good luck
