Just dont show up one day,,,:)LOL
Naaa,,that's not right, even if people do it all the time.
Seriously,,,
Your Job is a responsibility,,
but Your Life is Your own personal business.
Employers deserve reasonable notice,
and it behooves Employees to leave on good terms.
One thing to consider is this.
MANY employers will not actually accept "2 weeks notice",
They'll consider You terminated on the spot upon such notice.
Some have valid reasons,,some are just Jerks.
And even the BEST work relationships can have surprising results that an employee would not expect.
I personally would NOT mention it this far in advance of the departure.
You COULD find yourself without a paycheck for a couple months,,before you actually move.
Or,,"Boss" starts finding a replacement,,,gets lucky,,and sends You packing sooner than You'd planned.
2Weeks Notice is considered Standard,,
Give than notice 2 weeks before YOU plan to leave.
Not 2 months.
And dont be surprised if "any day" after giving notice,,is your last
Good Luck in your new Home

I gave my boss about three months notice. He knew why we were moving (wife's health) and everything went very well. The handover was smooth and I got a nice send-off.
Do I detect that you have issues with your boss. If so, there is still no way around it. Be direct and brief. Sometimes it is better to write a resignation letter, hand it to them and linger just long enough for them to open it. I did that at a job once and it went down OK.

Make an appointment with your boss, or knock on the door, and ask "Can I have a minute? There's something I really need to talk to you about." Explain the situation calmly, and by asking for some time, or saying you need to talk about something, you've already set the tone for a serious talk.
Good luck with everything! May you find happiness in your new home.

My husband and I will be moving out of the area in about a year. He'll have to find a new job. He'll have to tell his boss when that time comes. I imagine it'll be something simple and to the point. Thank them for the opprotunity you've had there, tell them you'll be taking experiences with you. Give a time's notice, if you can. (Two weeks, etc.)

Everyone who has answered your question has good answers. Take something from each. Except, do not ask "Can I speak with you?" Use "May I speak to you." If you do this now, you will be able to ask for a written referrence to keep in your employment folder with your updated resume, in the event that your next job does not work out. You NEVER leave a job without a good written job referrence. The more written job referrences you have with your resume, the better.

Tell her now. She will appreciate the advanced notice. Also, offer to interview and train the person who will take your place.
When I was ready to leave my job to move to another state, I told my boss when I made the decision (April). I got a job in November. He appreciated the fact that I was able to bring people into my projects and train them for 6 months.

Exactly how you've told us. Give him/her a 2 wks notice citing you are moving to another state for personal family reasons that you do not wish to discuss. You are not obligated to tell your boss anything else.

Sit down with them and tell them directly. They will appreciate it if you tell them sooner than later, so they can make preparations to replace you if necessary. Be polite and try and keep a good relationship so you will have a reference in the future.
