Most atheists know more about the bible than most christians.

I became an atheist while translating koine greek (1 John to be specific).

No, I don't look up the scripture. For the most part I already know it AND the context it was written in, who wrote it and why - more than the person who's spitting it out at me.

I once read the Bible seven or eight times in one summer (I was bored) and, even though a lot of that stuff did happen, it just didn't happen in the majesterial, holy, miraculous way it's been portrayed. Not only that, but with all of the discrepencies and mis-translations, it isn't very hard to doubt there is a God. I believe that Jesus did exist, but I believe that he was a human man who married and fathered a child. Was it the RED sea, or the REED sea? Noah's flood wasn't all that singular - floods happen all over the world, even those on such grand scales, but not all at once. Noah's flood happened in that one area, not large enough to cover the whole world, but large enough to make it SEEM as if the whole world was covered.

I believe the Bible, as many holes at it has, should only be used as a recorded history of the lives of the people in it, not as the word of God. These people lived their lives the best way they knew how, regardless of whether or not everyone could be convinced there is a God, and most didn't judge any of the non-believers for it. Most of them were good people in general, regardless of what they believed.

Not sure what you mean by don't believe in Christ.
Do you mean do not believe that Jesus lived? I do believe that.
Do you believe do not believe that Jesus was the Son of God? I believe we are all the sons and daughters of "God"

Have I looked up the scriptures? Yes, spent years as a Baptist

Do I believe the scriptures are the "True unvarnished Word of God"? Nope, I spent a whole lot of time in study and contemplation before I came up with my choice not to believe that any "Holy Book" has the whole truth about what is good and right.

Yes I do

And the reason I do it is because when I need to answer someones question I do the following:

1. make sure theyre speaking the truth

2. make sure I know what theyre speaking about so I can understand then explain why I dont believe the way they do.

Peace.

note: I believe in Jesus Christ as a saviour cause if it wasnt for him...people would not have learned that money is not your lord, contrary to wat the jews were doing back in the day by letting trade into temples.
However, believing that he came to save people and believing that he is the sole saviour are two differnt things. and I find it highly closed minded to say that people are not going to heaven because they dont believe that he is the sole saviour. He prayed to God..so God must be a separate being.

I don't. I don't even have a bible. And I don't take the bible seriously. I don't usually even read a post including a long quote from the bible.

Anyway, most probably they ARE true. I mean, they're well quoted and to the case. But what's the proof that they're ACTUALLY true, and actually applicable to the REAL world. Since I don't think they are, I don't bother to read them.

No, I see no point to it. They're just words which were quoted, either correctly or incorrectly, from a book which I am sensible enough to understand is not any more or less credible than something I could write myself...at least from a purely intellectual standpoint. I will point it out when I see misquotes, however, as I was raised Roman Catholic and know at least a little bit about that which I'm discussing.

Angel Gabriel 1st word to MUhammad(pbuh) is "READ". This means reading is a very strong clue given by GOD. If Reading is very precious to muslims do you think for 1400 years muslims never study the entire Bible series for clues to GOD? They did. They knew the Dead Sea Scrool, Torah, the gospels everything needed to know.

Thanks for asking and for the 2 points hehe!!

I have done so on occasion, and have been disappointed in what I found. Christians seem just as happy to misquote and use Bible quotes out of context as they are to misquote or take quotes out of context from science authors. I guess once you justify lying then you can lie about anything.

I studied Christianity-I have a comprehensive knowledge of scripture but it still doesn't convince me that Christianity is any use.
