For around the house(carpets, couch etc.) get borax laundry additive(in the powdered soap area for the store) before you treat the animals sprinkle borax everywhere a flea might be,(expecality under beds) with a broom or brush sweep the borax into the carpet and furniture, wait a day or so and vacuum start with a fresh vacuum bag and throw it in a trash bag and put it outside when you finish, you may have to repeat this a few times (in the mean time a good bath with flea soap for the animals) I know this sounds nuts but it works. The boric acid in Borax kills the fleas and the eggs, and the worst thing that can happen to your animals if they eat it will be a mild case of the poops,(it's not poisonous)
Also if you think your dog is bringing them in add a little garlic powder to his food 2-3 times a week, fleas really dislike garlic.

To win the battle on fleas, you must wage war on TWO fronts - your pets and your home. Let me start by saying do NOT use any over-the-counter flea products. One, they do not work well and two, they have a high incidence of adverse effects. I've seen too many kitties come into our cat clinic barely able to breathe after having an OTC flea remedy applied. Our clinic recommends Advantage for active infestations (I've heard good things about Frontline as well, we just don't carry it at our place). It works, is safe and only need be applied once a month. Keeping pets on flea prevention year-round (yes, even in winter) is the best way to go.

To kill fleas in the house, first start by vacuuming EVERYTHING. Immediately dispose of the vacuum bag OUTSIDE your house in a sealed container. If you have a bagless, empty the canister outside and use a flea spray in the canister and the trash. (Also, the only good use for flea collars is placing them in vacuum canisters!) Put anything that can be washed in the washing machine. After all this, get a safe, effective flea spray for the house. Our clinic recommends and sells a product called Knockout. Sprays are much more effective than bombs because bombs only settle on TOP of things. You need a spray you can direct in those pesky flea hiding places like UNDER your couch and between seat cushions.

If you fight the war on both fronts with effective products like those mentioned, you should be able to win the war on fleas!

If you have a large infestation of fleas the Advantage will kill those that get on the cat and the dog and it won't prevent fleas breeding in the house.

There is a company called Flea Busters. I have a friend who treats her house with them at least once a year. Going back to the Middle Ages you can spread eucalyptus branches throughout the house (rushes). I don't know if this kills the fleas though, they just avoid the smell.

Go to an exterminator and get a product called Dursban. I think it has to be mixed with water and then spray the entire house...carpets, furniture, wherever the animals have been...and leave for several hours until the smell has died down. The exterminator can give you details. It is the only thing that helped our severe infestation several years ago. Have the animals "dipped" too at the vet. It is an expensive process but well worth it to get rid of the fleas.

Advantage is good but I think Revolution is better.

I have six cats that go in and out but we never have a single flea. We use the Revolution every single month on each cat all year round. It's applied to the back of the neck and kills not only fleas but hookworms, roundworms, earmites and is also a heartworm preventative. It will rid your animals and your house of fleas. It will take care of the fleas on the animals quickly but may take 2-3 months to clear out your house - depending on bad you have them.

Be sure to get the right size Revolution for your dog and cats -- it's based on cat or dog and weight.

the problem may be that you are just treating the animals and not your house. You may have fleas and eggs in bedding, carpeting, etc. Advantage has ALWAYS worked wonders in killing fleas on my cats. You might also try giving your dogs a quick spritz of flea spray when you let them outside to keep fleas from outside jumping on them.

I only have 1 cat but I got frontline plus and by the next day he was almost fleas free now it's 3 days later and no fleas. It's very expensive for 3 little tubes but it works. Good luck!

For fleas that are living in your carpet or on your furniture, you can use Borax. It's a detergent that you can find in the laundry aisle of your local store. Simply sprinkle a light coat of this detergent over your carpets (or other problem areas). The fleas eat it and die. It will get absorbed into the carpet just like if you were using a carpet deodorizer. It’s non toxic and shouldn’t bleach any surfaces, though you may want to spot-test it if you have sensitive materials.

Not sure about getting rid of them around the house, but I use Frontline on my dog every month routinely to prevent fleas and that seems to work well.

You need to use the Advantage for SEVERAL MONTHS in a row!!!!!!! Otherwise, you have constant hatchings and the Advantage (or Frontline) stops working while there are still fleas!!!!
There is NO home remedy for fleas!!!!!!!!!!!!
