WOW! I like this question, great detail, but you forgot one thing, what's he like to do, watch Car Racing, Video Games, that sort of thing. But, have no fear, at 7, it's got to be uumm gross. Got Gummie Worms? Oreo Cookies? I take it you made the cake your self, frost it as a Pail or Bucket, Top with crushed/ ground Oreo's and top again with the Gummie Worms, make a little sign that says" Time to go Fishing". Add this to your other Ideas.
Happy B'Day Champ! Ya got a great Mom here.

Years ago when my children were small, I couldn't afford to buy decorated cakes. I baked a boxed cake mix. Bought a few tips and pastery bags. Made decorators icing -one and half cups crisco shortening, one half cup water and a two lb. bag powderd sugar. beat with mixer until it looks feels and tastes right at least 15 mins. maybe longer. I then had fun. Frost the cake. Then take a tooth pick, draw a simple picture on the frosted cake, divide remaining icing , color with food coloring take an unused art brush and paint the picture with the colored icing. Using the tips and pastery bags put a border on the cake. If you can't find a picture you like, frost the cake in matching colors and buy his favorite action figures and set on the cake add aborder. If he likes football , its simple to frost the cake green, add the yard lines in white , the numbers in black and place a small football or the logo , helment, or action player from his favorite team. It may take a little practice and may not always turn out perfect but if it's something the child is interested in he will love it.

Go to the supermarket and buy him a character cake with his favorite character and they will write what you want on his cake. That's what I did.
