Personally i think there are two types of heros. They are both in the military. One that dies, and one that lives that has seen death. The one that died payed the ultimate price for his country and can give nothing more, his/her family will miss them for the rest of their lives but can do nothing to bring them back. The ones that have seen death are heros because they have mentally dealt with the fact that their buddys/comrades have died. The things that the soldiers see in wars stay in their mind for an eternity and people think that it goes away, but it doesnt. How can you deal with seeing your best friend killed right in front of your face? Can you immagine that they spend all their lives together, played video games as kids, and then decided to join the military to serve their country. Thats why it bothers me so much to see kids not stand for the pledge of allegiance in high school. They dont know the price that our country pays to keep it free, puts the national debt small...

A hero is simply a person who rises to the occasion.
A hero is a real person, like anyone else, who is scared just like anyone else.
The only difference is that when it was time to STAND UP, scared or not, exhausted or not, over it all or not, the heros still stood up.....and did what had to be done.

To me a hero is not a soldier, a police officer or a firefighter or some other grandiose occupation.

To me a hero is a guy who gets up at 5:30 every day and goes to the same crappy job and punches the clock without complaining for 40 years.

A hero is someone

Who does what there brain says to do when there gut says to run.

Who will lay down their life for their belief

Who stays brave just one minute longer than those around them.

Who can make themselves get out of a perfectly good hole.

Who has the courage to live for something that others have died for.

Who faces fearful odds
for the graves of their fathers
and the temples of their gods.

A hero is someone who is called to duty (whether he likes it or not) and performs an act well beyond that which is expected of him.

Example:
My man was drafted during the Vietnam conflict. He was given terrible missions to complete-which he did-and saw tremendous suffering and pain on the part of our troops. On one mission he saw one of his buddies captured. He was hidden while he saw the Vietcong torture his buddy. They beat him, stabbed him, and tried to get him to tell them information about his mission. My man watched this as he slowly made his way forward. He was able to sneak up on the Vietcong soldiers, take them out, and free his buddy. That is a HERO. He could have stayed hidden, but he took the chance of being captured himself because he didn't believe in leaving anyone behind. He took on three enemy soldiers to save his buddy.

The defination of a hero would be ANYONE who goes far beyond the call of duty; who risks their life to help others. Whether it be a soldier, a fireman, a paramedic, a police-officer, or any civilion, who is willing to go out of their way to help others; not thinking of themselves and the consequences.

A hero is one who

puts his life on the line to save others
chooses to do the right thing when it's so much easier to do otherwise

My hero is my husband. He is a Marine currently defending your freedom in Iraq. He sees things everyday that you wouldn't even believe. Your hero may be a completely different person, but mine will never change.
