Because we can't stop looking over at the other side of the fence wondering if the grass in greener over there. It is natural human behavior.
However you have learned a very hard lesson, haven't you? Just remember this the next time you are in a relationship to cherish every moment as it happens instead of wondering what the other person has...I know it took me awhile to learn that very valuable lesson myself...and be grateful that you learned it cause there are a lot of people out there who never get it!

Well, in my humble opinion, there is no "creator". So therefore, there is no one to give thanks to, or a deity to appreciate. And how do YOU know what is going to happen to me (or anyone) when I die? I've heard it all before.. you will just say you "know" because it's in your holy book, or a priest told you so, or some such craziness. Ok, well when it comes down to it, whether you admit it or not, you DON'T know if you are right. You're guessing. You HOPE you're right (or you may have FAITH that you're right, but that's exactly the same thing as hoping). And that is the end of it. You simply don't know. None of us do. I sure don't, and I freely admit that. Have you been to the afterlife? If so, what's it like, hmm? I'd bet my left arm that you have not. And I imagine atheists DO appreciate what they have (well, most anyway.) I'm agnostic, so I can't say for sure, but I do lean toward atheism, and I can certainly say that I do very much appreciate everything I have. But not of a being I'm not certain exists or not, but of my parents, who raised me well. Hey, I'm a lucky guy like that. ;) But being appreciative of my folks has 0% to do with religion. Your 2nd Additional Details to Josh make no sense whatsoever. What does trying to get out of jail for murder have to do with your question? To believe that ANY person would want to spend the rest of their days in jail is just ignorant.. sorry, you're wrong if you think they would. Regarding your 3rd Additional Detail.. your bible doesn't mean jack squat to atheists. Because they're ATHEIST.. they don't subscribe to the same newsletter you do. Your religion is just ONE of MANY religions ever invented by mankind.. they can't ALL be right, right? And you should respect that atheists think you are wrong, instead of "hoping they see things differently one day". C'mon, do you really care what other people think? Just go on believing your superstitious nonsense, and leave non-religious people alone. Stop your preaching.. it's infuriating to have to read it. Just playing devil's advocate.. haha. :)

It's all in the conditioning of the human psyche. Some people need to, and are used to, having their own way, and when they cannot get it, they get mad. On the opposite end of the spectrum, If you are conditioned to expect having nothing over and over again, you learn to appreciate having nothing.

We take things for granted. I guess we must stop and reflect on what we truly cherish in life from time to time.
