I grew up in Pennsylvania, so the obvious answer for me would be the Liberty bell. It's one of the symbols of America's freedom. In 1776, the bell rang out to summon citizens to hear the first reading of the Declaration of Independence.

I'm not aware of any outstanding monument in the state of Georgia (that unspeakably ugly carving at Stone Mountain excepted), but I will tell you about THE monument in Marietta, GA: it's the Big Chicken.
I'm serious.
It's an old KFC that was built (somewhat) in the shape of a large chicken. Its beak and eyes are animated; so beloved is this building that, when the county considered tearing it down some years back, the community took up a collection to put it in good repair!
Here's a picture of it: http://www.bigchickenchorus.org/BigChickenLandmark.html

The Grand Canyon isn't a man-made monument, but it is what my state is most recognized for having.

Probably Monticello. Or maybe the capital dome in Richmond. Or the Governor's Mansion at Williamsburg. (Virginia)
