Many muscle cramps are caused by magnesium or potassium defieciencies. Eat more fruits and vegetables for potassium, and take calcium-magnesium-zinc pills with each meals for magnesium. I have gotten many good results with this regimen.

I only know of a few different reasons that this could be occuring.... the first is a lack of water. For many people, if you do not consume at least 64 ounces of water each day, at night when your body begins to shut down in preparation for sleep, your body can cramp up due to dehydration. Another reason could be lactic acid fermentation. If you exercise or just use that part of your body alot, your muscles could be trying to recoop. If your diet is not too good, your body will not have what it needs to adequately recover. These are the only two possibilities that I can think of, though I am not a physician.
