My question itself is more of a general opinion, not a personal question. I have been in Iraq; and I am in the military, but I wanted to know what people the general public think. It is nice to get opinions that are not corrupted or from a major news source.

Right now, the plan is for the Republicans to be beaten senseless at the polls next week. Then maybe something can be done about it.

If the Republicans maintain control of the legislature, you can expect at least 2 more years of pointless, senseless, endless war and hawkish talk, and there's not a d--n thing else we can do about it.

To take action against the war you first must assume that we have some type of influence in the decision making process of our governments. Few people today believe that as average citizens we have any influence. There was a time when people thought that your voice would be heard, but today people have lost confidence; only half of eligible American voters vote in Presidential elections and fewer than half in local elections. The people have become dissatisfied with the election process, and have even less faith in protesting.

This is a frightening paradigm. When the people of "Democratic" governments are not heard, or don't speak out, civil unrest follows. If people's needs and rights are respected, chaos is averted.

Just wait and see what happens when they institute a draft!

Because most people in America don't have any idea what is really going on, so how can they have a true opinion one way or the other? Americans got used to the 90's when we could fight in Bosnia with very few casualties and now the media shows a few thousand people dying in just a few years and Americans freak out. Do you happen to remember how many people died in Word War II? Or World War I? Or Vietnam? War is an ugly thing, Iraq is nothing new or different.

What in the hell are you going to do to stop it? Bush is hounded 24/7 for staying in Iraq, and even if we did pull all our troops out he would still get ambushed by the American people. The American people want everything to be a quick fix in any situation. If it's a quick fix you want, pull out of that f#*ked up country and NUKE the whole country at once.

Because that would require you to get out from in front of your computer and actually go vote for a candidate who shares your views. The reason the Religious Reich have such disproportional influence to their numbers it that they VOTE!

Because the government is the one in control. There have already been protests. When did that stop it, and what else can we do?
