Satan is the father of all lies. In the premortal, he suggested a plan where by nobody would have free choice but rather follow his commands and he would take care of them on Earth. Christ's plan was for freewill, to allow men to be tempted and make their own choices. Satan was then cast out of heaven without a body. Thus, Satan is a spirit, hating human kind and their happiness. It is his fondest desire to draw us away from our Heavenly Father and his son. Pray always, that you may resist temptation, yea that you may defeat satan and escape from the hands of his servants who do uphold his works.

The devil is the deceiver and the distractor. He is here to keep us from the love of the one true God, and to prevent the salvation of our eternal soul.
He creates the pursuit and worship of many false gods (greed, lust, power, fame, allah, etc) to keep us from God's love.

People always ask, "So who is Satan?" People going around, calling all these things "Satan". "Oh, Pagans are Satan!" "Halloween is SATAN!" "Pro-choicers are SATAN!"
In reality, the nuns who teach Catholic schools are Satan. There is no group more sadistic and cruel than those people.
Ha ha ha, kidding. I don't believe in Satan.
