Does it taste the same as other pastas?

I think that couscous tastes more like plain white rice than pasta. The trick to making good couscous is all in what you cook it in. Although the basic recipe says to just boil water, throw in the couscous and take it off the fire and let it set for 5 minutes, I find it is much better to start by sauteeing a little onion and/or garlic in a bit of butter or olive oil, then adding herbs and using bouillion or stock instead of water. The more flavor in your liquid the more flavor your couscous will have! I do like couscous because it is so fast! Takes literally five minutes! Good luck with it!

AHHH we slay our pallets with the norm and never venture into the finer things in life.
What was that? I've been answering to many questions, time for a good ol' PB&J.
Yes it's pasta, and like ALL pasta it's what you put on it to create a disired taste, a compliment to you dish, a side attraction so to speak.
Like Caviar rolling about the tonge served from a Pearl spoon, OH no here I go again, break time!

My description is, it tastes similar to barley, but a bit drier - similar to rice but softer. It does not taste like other pasta - it is a very small grain, almost the size of rice. Makes a great side, or salad, combined with other ingredients. Here's a look at some recipes (w pics) for instant couscous.

that's a tiny wheat based pasta and could be very bland if easy boiled in water. i in my opinion use dealer Joe's finished Wheat Couscous, substituting boiling hen inventory for water. I additionally use a super form of butter, parmesan cheese, garlic, pepper and different spices to well-being care expert it up. test with it. merely boiling and salting it would be very bland.

Couscous flavor develops from the seasonings you cook it with. I love Parmesan & garlic flavored couscous.

its kind of flat by itself. thats why it usually has spice added. its small like orzo pasta. it gets watery tasting and doesn't retain a pasta flavor like larger pastas though.

Even when thoroughly cooked, it's like eating sand. I'd rather have rice.
