There should be a metal basket that sits on a metal stick. Put the water in the pot, then this gadget, then put in the coffee grounds. Manual percolators make stronger coffee than most modern ones so use a little less coffee.

fill it with the appropriate amount of water, put a filter in the basket, then add the coffee, put the top of the basket then the top on the percolator, put it on the stove and let it perc.

put water in bottom of pot...put in rod with coffee holder add 4 tbls of coffee put over fire or electric burner...let purculate , dont set heat to high just enought to perk....let sit after done to cool slightly then poor in cup.
