Who wrote or spoke the quote "the church is a sleeping giant"?

Father HoLung in Kingston said, "The Church is a sleeping giant. If the whole Church was to come together, we would be 90 per cent of the country," He said this April 22, 1999 according to a report in The Jamaica Gleaner.

Never heard of it. But, I have heard of a Japanese saying of the USA, at the beginning of World War II, ''We have awakened a sleeping giant''. And, that was 60+ years ago.
