that just because your religion or faith is right for you it might not be right for another.
i keep hearing christians using this exsample... if you saw a person drowning would you not help? well what if that person is not drowning and only swimming differently than you? we don't all swim the same way so why do we all have to worship the same?

if you believe a certain way and that way is good for you then thats great. but please don't belittle and condem others beliefs if it works for and is good for them. you don't have to like it ...just accept it.

Wow. That's about the coolest response to those arguments I've ever seen.

I'll just keep on doing the butterfly stroke.

asimplegmr: That doesn't work at all, because I can only think of two religions that actively proselytize: Christianity and Islam. Does that mean the others think they're wrong?

Of course not. We all feel like we are correct. So by your logic, we should all be proselytizing. But we're not. We consider it rude and offensive. We feel that it belittles someone else's beliefs if we proselytize.

We're happy to talk about our religion if someone asks, but the moment they want us to stop, we do. For many pushy Christians, that doesn't seem to be the case.

You already know the answer to this, don't you? With Christianity, everyone who does not 'swim' the way the Christians think they should swim is going to be said by them to be in danger of drowning if they don't change course. You're asking for logic, which is something in which religion is simply not rooted.

I see what you are saying, the thing is, when people enter an exchange of views some have a one-way feed, because they come with their dialog already prepared and ready to pounce; they can't wait for the other person to finish, because then they can spew whatever they came to share. They never didn't plan on really listening or trying to absorb the other person's point of view.

Because people ruin religion; like people ruin most good concepts, by overdoing it. They take a good idea and abuse it. Religion, labor unions, marriage, capitalism, family, work, money...people go overboard and mess things up.
We are the only animal that hurts its own kind. We get judgmental, close-minded, lazy and the religious fanatics can often be the worse. I know, I'm cynical...I admit it.

To be fair - it's not very difficult to tell if someone's drowning. In fact, to a normal person with average sight, it's very easy to tell whether someone is drowning or whether they are just "swimming differently."

But you're right - you have every right to drown any way you choose to. To be sure, Jesus never imposed His truth on anybody. He merely presented it to them, and let them do with it whatsoever they willed to do.

So, there ya go. If you want to drown, swim differently, or march to the beat of your own drum, you certainly have every right to do that. I wish ya a lotta luck with that.

exactly but how many so called " Christians " are able to leave well enough alone. they almost always have the attitude that my religion is the only right one so you must do what I say because I am totally right and you are totally wrong. then they force their Christian Belief Systems down the others throats.

It's because montheistic religions beleive (by definition) that there is only one god, therefore if you are someone who believes in a different god, your version of god of course must be a false one, people following montheistic religions are incapable (in general) of accepting that other religions can be valid as their own.

the post by "common_sense_don't_hurt" is a good example of this type of thinking

This is a very good question. One that would require the religious to grasp the very very simple concept of "live an let live". And I know that their not stupid, so I don't understand why they don't get it.

Exactly. and what you said is in the bible too.
When you eat a meal with someone.. and they eat differently then you, you are to be kind and eat that same way.

I'd have to find the scripture lol

It's NOT so hard to understand. There is but ONE true God, and the ONLY way to salvation of the eternal soul is thru His Son, Jesus.

ALL ELSE is the pursuit and worship of false gods (lust, greed, power, fame, allah, etc).

Your "swimming differently" only works if you're referring to one person worshiping one false god, and another person worshiping a different false god.
