i'd say it's 50-50. as shallow as it may sound, we have to admit that physical appearance did take part on the first attraction way before a relationship is formed. human beings are designed to act instinctively on this, so my opinion is: physical contact is as important as intellectual and mental connection.

My boyfriend is obsessed with, what he calls, cuddling. He loves to hug too. Apparently to him, not doing any of that or even holding hands makes you nothing more than friends. Since this is my first relationship I can't say I totally agree or disagree - but I'm leaning on the side that avoiding all this stuff can still make you boyfriend and girlfriend if you just go out on dates together and make each other happy.

It depends on the relationship and the ages of the people involved.
If the relationship depends on the physical there is no relationship.

For me, it's very important..;nothing nicer than a kiss and cuddle...but being able to talk to each other, and discuss things are equally important

very important. physical contact can express many things.....if your girlfriend kisses you, you can automatically feel what she wants to say. "i love you" . "i need more time". "something bothers me" etc...
even little things like holding hand or a quick kiss are VERY important...if you really care for you partner then these are things which come automatically.
