The self stick tiles are installed over a concrete floor. Do I have to remove the self stick tiles before I install the ceramic tiles or can I place them over the old floor?? Thanks!

No! No! No! Remove the self-stick tiles! If you are on a wooden floor install "wonderboard" (a cement-based 1/2" board) level it and then install your ceramic tiles on top. You say you are over cement (a slab?) in that case you may want to "level" using the adhesive/cement as you go along, especially if there are serious cracks and not use the cement board which becomes unnecessary (if once you removed the tiles you are directly on cement).

You should definitely remove the old peel and stick tile. It will be very sticky underneath, especially if they are not very old. A new ceramic floor costs a good deal of money and I wouldn't take the chance it could be ruined by the cheaper floor underneath. You can buy a bag of skim coat at your local home improvement store which will help with two things. First it will help level out the floor and fill in any low areas and second, it will cover the glue from the old tiles and make it much easier to install the new ceramic.
Also, do yourself a favor and wear old tennis shoes when you're taking up the peel and stick, as the glue will last on the soles for a while, and you need something you can tie tightly on your feet to keep from stepping out of them as you walk on the sticky floor. Good luck.

Of course you can !!!! and it might last for a few months. IT IS NOT A GOOD idea to do that.. remove the stick tiles first.... EVEN IF THE TILER you hire tells you to or recommends that you put the new ceramic tile OVER the stick tile.. He is saying this because he does not want to work as hard..NEVER NEVER put ceramic tile over linoleum.... stick tiles...eetc

The ceramic glue would not last on the self stick, and the self stick tiles would lift. If you want to do the job once and do it right get rid of the self stick tiles.

Not a good idea for a number of reasons. To take up the self stick tiles, go to your hardware store and get a long handled scraper tool. You will find it MUCH easier to pull them up this way. You don't need an absolutely smooth surface for ceramic tile.
