I think it's a good idea. There is a doggie day care here in Miami, and she drives the dogs around in a school bus. They all have their heads out the window, and they look so happy. Well worth $7 a day.

You shouldn't have to dump your dog for a business. You could even have your dog at work with you during the day manning the front counter! Several business owners in the Chicago area (where I'm from) who have pet oriented businesses often have their dogs come to work with them.
Suggestions for your business: Sound suppression!! Dogs barking can really get the decibal levels up and that can effect attitude and behavior in a negative way.
Also, Doggie Day Care... The price is nice. But for additional training there should be an additional price. I'd go with a basic package of walks and play time for one price and a deluxe package with training and other options for 5-7 bucks more per day per dog.

How many dogs would you accept at one time? I doubt you would have time to train the dogs. I think the dog should already be trained and well behaved before going to doggie daycare. You don't want a bunch of out of control dogs running around.
To me, doggie day care is a place where I would bring my dog to get exercise, be fed and watered and have a safe place to socialize with other dogs so that they wouldn't be cooped up all day while I was working. I would not expect the person caring for my dog to train it. I also would not bring my dog to a place where someone attempted to train it their way. I have my own ways of doing things.
5-7 dollars a day is waaaay too cheap. I would expect to pay more along the lines of 10-15 dollars a day, but maybe that's just because of the area I'm in.
Do you have enough land? How would the enclosures be set up? Would you hire other employees? How experienced are you in handling dogs? Do you have references?
You would also need to find out what permits, licenses, etc. you would need to get before trying to start up a business.

I dont think she means she would actually have to get rid of her own dog, she is just saying this is something she hears all the time. I think it is an idea well worth thinking about, but it would be a long term thing to research into, as there would be a lot of demand for this type of thing. LOTS of families who are busy all the time, often the dog just gets left in alone all day. So i think its an idea worth thinking about,
Good Luck

I have often thought of opening my own shop, but what stops me is all the legalities involved. Research a child daycare center and look at all the do's and dont's. It is pretty much the same concept. You would be legally responsible for any injuries that may occur. It would be better to start a dog obedience school instead less hassle. Good Luck.

personally i don't use dog day care. but i like the idea of them. the reason i don't use them in Ohio where i live,is because someone is always around at my house. but i think dog day care is a good thing. i never heard of having to give up your dog because you can't take care of it during the day. alot of people leave their dogs home.

don't know about the day care, but i don't understand about why you would have to get rid of your own dog. that's dumb. i go to work during the day too and my dogs remain at home where they are just fine till i get back.
whatever you do, DON'T get rid of your dog, if you love him.
