Cows release methane gas into the atmosphere. Although it is only a small proportion compared to carbon dioxide or somthing, it can exist in the atmosphere for hundreds of years. However it would be difficult to stop the process if you want meat, milk and dairy products.

Cows do emit CH4 (methane) through flatulance, but that is a natural process. Methane will react with O3 (ozone) but the reaction is a slow reacting process. Lets face it, if we (America and the rest of the industrial world) do not address the problem, it will become a bigger problem. In essence, cow flatulance should not be an issue, but perhaps it can be because we give off a very large amount of methane by ourselves. My best educated answer would be that cows alone wouldn't have the magnitude of methane to harm the ozone layer significantly, but that in combination with all the other pollution may.

Think there is far more risk of global warming from all the farting men in the world. They seem to do it all the time!

Boy am I glad that there is someone else that
is worried about those c-cow pharts besides me.
C-cow Pharts are known to contain large amounts
of testicular flangelitis which has been reported as
one of the main causes for the depletion of Ozone
34 in the extreme, lower level of our atmosphere.
Ozone 34, as you may recall, is the sole reason
we are all alive today because it retains the outer
barrier of gases around the Earth, and keeps them
from burning up due to solar heating and modulation.
Some scientists are meeting all the time in places
like Tokyo and Amsterdam to resolve these issues.
The second reason that everyone should vote against
unrestricted c-cow pharting this election day is that
pharting attracts big blue flies. Blue flies are dangerous
because they are the prime carriers of venus droopolitus,
the common teenage male which causes teens to be
unable to participate in sedual activities in the privacy
of their own homes, or at wild parties. Therefore, we must
all focus our energy this year to get some kind
of powerful laws passed in the courts to prevent the
keeping of c-cows anywhere near teenagers and their frequent parties. That is the only was we can stop the
spread of those noxious green gases and reduce the blue fly population. I urge you to illicit the help of all your friends in eliminating teenage droop forever. What we all need is youthful, strong bodies free of the droop that typifies today's obvious lack of testosterone injunitus and vestigular jerk in males. There is simply no need for us to castigate ourselves any longer now that the truth is known.
I urge you to help with this global disaster.

They produce methane. Yes it destroys the ozone. Yes it is a risk to global warming, but in all reality it's not feasible to eliminate cows farting.

First of all there is some mis-information here - whilst Ozone is a greenhouse gas it is not the main one responsible for global warming. Instead, it filters UV rays from the sun and limits skin cancers and genetic mutations in life at the surface. The Ozone layer is in the stratosphere (~10 - 50km up). Reactions of Methane to deplete ground-level ozone is not a problem, because at the ground, Ozone is not good for us and in involved with the chemistry of smog formation and other air pollution events. It is important not to use CFCs to solve the ozone problem but the greenhouse effect is caused mainly by gases such as carbon dioxide, water vapour and methane. To solve global warming we (mainly) need to limit fossil fuel burning.
Methane is a greenhouse gas, is about 20 times more absorbing than Carbon Dioxide, and is released by cows, in fact most is released by the cows burping not farting. BUT it doesn't stay in the atmosphere for as long as carbon dioxide (300 years) instead methane stays for about 12 years.
Also in terms of emissions, cows have been measured to produce 0.23kg CH4 per day (when fed grass). Globally, agriculture, produces 134 Tg CH4 per year (fossil fuel produces 91Tg CH4 per year) but compared to human CO2 from fossil fuel emissions (24,027 Tg per year) it is small (1Tg = 1 million tonnes)
Also since the number of cows is related to our meat & milk production it is possible to say that they are not natural emmisions, but another branch of human emissions.

Cows and women, ever notice the humm-a-dity after a woman does it compared to only a slight smell from men,and thats with only a squeek or a puff compared to the thunderous roar from mens.

Apparently it is.....one of of the biggest holes in the ozone layer is over Australia and it's getting worse because of the ammount of sheep there. So to all you disbelievers who say you never fart, you are all contributing !!!
