For most, their only crime is to come here seeking a better life....My question to you is, why must we criminalize them for this? Since when, has been considered a crime? This is the American way....Let and let live....
For those of you saying they are of no value, and are from a third world country, isn't that where most immigrants are from? Escaping a third world country and political oppression, is why most people come here....Every human being has value....

Gee, that's funny. People are offended by the term "Illegal Alien"?
Then, what would they think If I called them 'wetbacks"?
I grew up 5 minutes from the San Diego border with Mexico. As a kid, I played in the canyon that no longer exists due to a zillion homes that now stand. I'm white and some of my childhood friends were mexican. They weren't offended when the term "wet-back" was used to describe the illegals coming accross the canyons. That was the term. No offense intended.
But then you need to remember, back then, there was also a group known as "Fags" too. Now it's a crime to call someone that...
Should I be offended if I'm called a "Honkie"... That would be funny....

My dictionary has two main definitions for the word "alien"; foreign-born person is one, extraterrestrial is the other. Obviously, the definitions are used, and abused, by whichever group is trying to further their "cause". The people who are in the United States illegally are making a stink out of the use of the word "alien", claiming the second definition portrays them as visitors from another galaxy. This, to me, is just one more lame attempt to deflect attention from the core issue, and that is, no matter what you call it, the fact cannot be changed - if you are here illegally, you are breaking the law. Period.
If you keep telling a lie over and over again, does it become the truth? NO.

The 'wet backs' as we once called them, should appreciate the term illegal aliens, because in this country they are both illegal and alien to this land of ours. It is a lot less offensive term than 'wet back' because this is a demeaning term and it was meant to insult and demean.
The supporters of this illegal immigrant issue will not win their fight because they're asking the lawmakers to set aside laws designed to protect this country and it's economy. They fail to acknowledge that along with the thousands of illegals entering this country from across it's southern frontier, many terrorists are making it through as well. Frankly. i don't believe they even care about that, but it's probably time they cared about the citizens of this country and how they perceive this violation of their homeland.
Civil war is not out of the question, if this problem isn't resolved sooner rather than later. The American people, for the most part, have a genuine appreciation and empathy for the Latinos in this country. It's time those who appreciate this country and wish to continue living here in peace and harmony with the rest of the country, showed loyalty to their neighbors and fellow citizens. Rallying support for illegal immigrants is not showing support for this country, nor is it helping the security against further attack.

I have started to use the term illegal alien almost exclusively. Its the term used by the Border Patrol and most law enforcement organizations as well as the factual gathering departments of the US government.
I don't think it is in any way a racists term. How can it be racists its, what they are. They are illegal and alien to this nation, simply by definition of the words,as applied to this situation.
I have a comment on the "better life" statement. If some one comes to this country illegally seeking this better life and his/her/their quest for said life ,causes the chances for a better life of a legal American to dwindle then we have a problem.
If the illegal aliens quest for a better life, causes the legal Americans better life to suffer ,then we have a problem.
When the illegal aliens quest for the better life drags down the quality of all legal Americans ,we have a problem
Your right to a better life ends... if it in any way endangers my better life.Someones rights to their freedom ends at my property line,if your freedoms interfering with my freedom then who's freedom do you think I care about the most? Just an observance of life.
Besides the race card has no effect on me,its tired and over used. And has no bearing on my views of illegal aliens.

Yes, But to the first answerer, Whether or not they are applying it to ( illegal )Mexicans doesn't matter, As we all know the highest amount of illegal aliens are Mexican, So just because they're Mexican should we come up with a different name for their illegal activity?
No, I won't apologize for using the term, They gave themselves the term by coming here illegally.
It's not racism, it's not derogatory, it's not UN-humane, It's a fact and it's the law Illegal Alien, Illegal Immigrant Undocumented Worker, They're all the same & They all mean the same thing.
* I can understand them coming for a better life, But we are not obliged to give them that, They're not our ctizens. They're tresspassing onto our land.

Illegal alien is in fact the right term for an illegal foreigner, but what it is really racist is when they use terms such as illegal beaner, spics, and other racist slurs. The word alien does sound a bit rude, but it is the right term.

The problem with the word RACIST and the way illegal aliens and pro illegals used it is pathetic. The Mexicans called the Americans, racist but when they called us gringos, well that's not racist, All of these is the double standard that they use. If you go to Mexico, to the border between Mexico and Guatemala you are going to find in the side of Mexico, soldiers and policemen, guarding their border and making sure that they don't come through. They also put their illegals in jails that are dirty and inhumane, but you don't see them complaining about these inhuman treatments or calling the Civil Right Organizations, its all a big secret., nothing to worry about. It's time for us Americans to put thing in the places that they belong.

It clearly applies to any race that fits the qualifications.
It is just a more difficult mouthful to claim 'equal rights for illegal aliens!', and when they supplant 'immigrant' and ignore the distinction between those legally here and those not, they put themselves on the side of legal immigrants, who would otherwise be their direct competitors.

it's a term coined by the U.S. lawmakers to describe a person or persons illegally entering the United States or a person that his Visa has expired which put him at an illegal alien status.
those same people don't like the words, criminal, felony, legal and welfare recipient either!
we Americans don't care what they whine over! they're lawbreakers and need to be deported!

well it immediately implies criminal action rather than explaining true intentions. Why are you breaking into your neighbors house? To rob?
Why does someone leave their dirt floor house with no plumbing or electricity and job earning $3 a day to live in the US where they can actually live in a real house (who cares if it is with 20 friends and family at least there is a toilet!) and work for $3 a half hour? you call them a criminal why not call them refugees or immigrant workers or hard working men and women who dream of a better life for their children they are not able to offer them in their native land?
