I got a new covered litterbox to replace the old, regular pan box because I couldn't stand the smell. I put the new one in the exact same place as the old one, hoping my cat would just catch on. Instead, she decided to jump behind the new box and poop back there. I took the poop and put it in the new box and so far she hasn't had to go so I don't know how that'll work out, but somehow I'm doubting it will.
Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to get her to use this box? I really don't want to have to go back to the pan...

I can't remove the cover because she tries to go out the side and that tips it over.. it's a self-cleaning box so it's shaped funny and it's wobbly unless the cat goes out the correct exit.

Pick her up and place her into it then pet her and tell her good kitty. She'll sniff around alittle bit and if she doesn't have to go she'll jump back out. This always works with my cats I do it everytime I get a new one or new litter or if I move the box to a different place in the house. So far I have been problem free!

I have a cat that I think is clausterphobic to closed litterboxes. Unfortunately, I also have a dog who insists on eating cat poop. My other 2 cats have no problem using the covered box, but I cannot teach this one cat no matter how hard I try. She also pees and poops around the box and the carpets.
For this particular cat, the only solution is to leave a window open so that she can go outside. This may not be the best option for you if you live in an apartment or on a busy street. Also, letting a cat out can create other problems with humans, animals, and diseases. In the case of my cat, she used to be wild, so the open window was the last option left. It seems to be a solution that we can both live with.

You have done everything correctly so far. If you can take the lid off, I would do that initially since cats don't usually like anything to change when it pertains to their litter box. If that doesn't work, try putting the old box inside the new one for a day or so to see if kitty will use the old one with the lid on. Eventually take the old one out and she should be fine.

Take the cover off and I'll bet she'll start using the new box. Once she's used to it try putting the cover back on. If this freaks her out, try putting the cover on while she's in the middle of using the box a few times. It's just a matter of getting her used to it.

ugh , aren't cats wonderful? My cats did the same thing when they didnt like their new box. Well, i'd say put the old litter in the new box etc.. or maybe but the old one next to the new one. Its a trial and error process

particularly sorry to assert you have in basic terms carried out the worst subject a possibility, if your attempting to cut up them to have there "very own" area it wont paintings. Cats are territorial and wanting shutting in one cat on your room all day wont stop the different from eating and making use of the others foodstuff/bathroom. additionally now the cats think of that upstairs is for the lavatory section, for this reason no get right of entry to on your room, use yet another. attempt putting the muddle tray outdoors your room. yet i'd advise guidance them to bypass outdoors if a possibility. Are they brothers? Did you get them on the comparable time? if so they'd in basic terms be particularly friendly and desire to be at the same time like my 2 sisters I even have. How previous are they? in basic terms some suggestion, if your cat has diarrhoea do you recognize what's inflicting it? As my 2 cats once I have been given them certainly one of them had a dodgy tummy, and it may be what your feeding them. without understanding how previous they are, yet i'd say if it does not sparkling up replace there foodstuff to a delicate foodstuff plan one to help there tummy's, worked for my 2. As for consume/bathroom one after the different, why are you doing this? why no longer enable them to consume/bathroom interior the comparable section (eating room) and then enable them to come again and sleep on your room in the event that they desire to?

the cat is just a bit confused, use that ceder kind of litter, great for smell control, that I can not stand either. and I place our litter box were only the cat and myself knows were it is..the sight of a car box is grouse!! We have a large home, in one of the extra bedrooms, I keep it in the closet with the door just open enough for her to get in and out of. that solves that problem..all done!
