A lot of people consider a man to be more "manly" if they don't shave their underarms and legs. Same with the chest. But some women find body hair to be gross also. I knew a guy who shaved his legs, he thought having hair on his legs was gross, and his girlfriend liked it. some women hate chest hair on men. so they ask their man to shave or wax it. Same goes for under arms. Some people just find it to be gross. Others find it to be manly... which can be sexy to some people. Since the majority of men don't shave or wax any of those things, that is why it is expected. However, there is nothing wrong with it, because different people have different preferences. Shaving your underarms is A-OK if it's what you're more comfortable with!

Men are lucky. I always find myself having the desire to shave guys legs though. I like the naturalness of men having hair. I prefer the ones that do but it doesn't stop the urge to want to shave a hairy leg. Never had the urge to shave a guys under arm.

It is all about culture what is expected of a person to not be an outsider. Men with hair is part of our culture.

I had a professor of Woman's Studies suggest to me that many of the different social etiquette of males and females came from their natural differences. For example, in general women have less hair then men, so society somehow thought that a more womanly woman would have less hair. Basically, she suggested that it was about accentuating the differences between men and women.

While this makes sense for many things, I'm not sure if it is always there. For example, I've heard that men usually have longer eyelashes then women, but somehow women are expected to artificially extend their eyelashes. Also the whole androgynous movement makes me wonder, but the theory did explain some things.

It is a misconception that men should not shave their underarms. In fact, it is unhygienic not to shave. Many men now recognize that and do not consider it to be effeminate to shave off their underarms. My advice is - shave, you feel and smell better.

Because men can be hairy and "animalistic" while women are expected to be pretty delicate china-dolls.

My boyfriend does shave his underarms though, and I appreciate it. There's nothing worse than the white clumpy deodorant armpit hair - ick!

i imagine trimming is a good idea. i do not study about shaving.. my husband trims his because that is going to improve quite lengthy. lol. It nonetheless is manly, yet also a lot less complicated to placed on deodorant, and that i'm not a wide fan of being tickled with lengthy armpit hair!
