Eggnog used to be sold in gallons like milk, and this was convenient and comparatively inexpensive for families and Christmas parties, but I no longer see these, not even in warehouse stores like Sam's Club. My best guess is, companies that make the stuff have figured out that by selling it only in very small bottles, they can get consumers to pay much more for the amount they need. Also, if people run out of eggnog and have to go back to the grocery store for more, this is advantageous, at least from a marketing standpoint, since they're likely to pick up additional items when they go.

Eggnog, after it has been opened, can go bad very quickly, a matter of days. If you want to cut down on trips to t he store, just buy a bunch of small containers of eggnog. I dont see how you would go through an entire gallon in a few days.

If you know you're going to drink more than half a gallon.... BUY MORE THAN HALF A GALLON. D:

EDIT: Eggnog is sold mostly in half gallon sizes because most people don't drink a gallon of the stuff before it spoils, so the half gallon size reduces waste which makes the consumer happier ultimately.

I cut mine to half strength with milk. A litre will equate to 1/2 gallon for me, or 2 litres. Most don't drink it in large quantities, so 1 gallon is kind of wasteful.

That is a good question, I only see it in quart and half gallon containers. You need to write to the milk company.

Because it would put too much of a strain on the medical profession if everyone got sick at Christmas.
