Yesterday I woke up with a very stiff neck. I have experienced this many times before but this time it was HORRIBLE. I have some mobility in my neck, and the pain doesn't necessarily happen when I move my neck. I can be motionless and all of a sudden, a jolt of pain will run through my neck and head. It feels like electricity. The pain also happens when I walk at a normal pace, or lift my arms.

Could this just be stiff neck due to poor sleep?

Sound like you might have bulged a cervical disc. The reason I say that is that slight motions produce a jult type pain into your jaw and head. Thats called radicular pain from your cervical nerve root. It could happen from poor sleep posture over time. If the symptoms continue and you have the means, I would go see an MD

TOS is a likely canidate. Sleep, posture, acivity (or lack of), and many other things can cause this. This sounds very fixable. Start with something that offers good results with little risk, such as Chiropractic and Acupuncture. If that does not help, talk to an MD about pain relief. Surgery should be the absolute last resort. There is not going back from a surgical process.

Could be, but why do you have poor sleep? Could be your pillow, or the way you lay. Maybe not.
My neck was getting stiff and sore also, I went to a chiropractor and he showed the ex-ray to me. I was shocked. I had subluxation in my neck. There were also two of the vertebrate that were out of place. Once he began to work on me I felt much better. I sleep better and wake up feeling better. My neck was moving forward and loosing its "c" like curve.
I suggest you see a Dr. and have some ex-rays done to see if there might be a problem. Good luck!!!

you certainly have problems with your neck. Waking up and feeling terrible means that your pillow needs changing. Your neck doesn't get the rest it needs you should support the neck's curvature in order to get the rest it needs. That something easy to do...Then visit a physical therapist..... Your job.....see if you misstreat your neck at work (especially if you work at an office ), if you wear the wrong glasses...... There are so may things

It sounds like you may have a pinched nerve in you neck. I'm not a medical person, just one who has felt this occasionally. I had also seconds of tingling in my arm and hands.
Please go see Dr. Let them x ray you. Whatever they do find out. Good luck.

It might be something called thoracic outlet syndrome.

Don't let a doctor talk you into the rib removal surgery if it turns out you actually have this.
