I'm not sure exactly what you mean....

The OS will launch the game, and anything the game does will be done through the OS. For example, the game will pass the graphics instructions to the OS, which passes them to the graphics driver, which passes them to the graphics card, which passes them to the monitor.
Similarly, any maths will be sent to the OS which then sends them to the CPU.

The OS acts as a translation layer for all the apps you use. The API is basically a single, standard way of asking questions. Your OS then translates these ito the language understood by the respective hardware and it's drivers - this way, it is only the OS that needs to know the intricacies of your hardware, the game can get on with letting you shoot things.

I stick the LiveCDrom into the CD Drive, and reboot.

The games are right there in the menu of 1900 and I select, and the Operation is done in the Linux virus proof environment in the C language...
