DNA IS AN ABBRIVIATION OF Deoxyribonucleic acid .

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is a nucleic acid that contains the genetic instructions for the biological development of a cellular form of life or a virus. All known cellular life and some viruses have DNAs. DNA is a long polymer of nucleotides (a polynucleotide) that encodes the sequence of amino acid residues in proteins, using the genetic code.

A nucleic acid that carries the genetic information in the cell and is capable of self-replication and synthesis of RNA. DNA consists of two long chains of nucleotides twisted into a double helix and joined by hydrogen bonds between the complementary bases adenine and thymine or cytosine and guanine. The sequence of nucleotides determines individual hereditary characteristics.

DNA is the chain of bases (guanine, adonine, cytosine and thymine) that hold the programming for proteins. There are series of three bases (called codons) through out the DNA chain. For instance guanine-adonine-cytosine (GAC) could be a series of three bases in the chain that will tell RNA to put a particular amino acid in its place.

DNA=Deoxyribonuceic acid
De=without
oxy=oxygen. ergo, deoxyribonucleic acid is ribonucleic that lacks oxygen

it's definition is gene. That's it....or at least how my biology teacher said it was
