Amoxie Drops are good antibiotics,or amoxcillin.Don't give your pet human antibiotics as it will cause death.Suggest you see your vet.If you know how to give injection, you may purchase the penicillen at your local feed store and give your pet around 1/2 cc per 3 lbs on a 3 cc syringe ,twice daily,or same dose for gentimicin.

this is not true. the same scams told to humans about drugs that expire is the same scam involved in a pets health. antibiotics are simply antibiotics, yes there are some made for certain conditions but all are much the same in effect and make up. YES it is important to give a pet the proper dosage for there weight and strength. Ampicillin is great for small pets in range of 40 pounds, give it slowly and low amounts, if it is human antibiotics simply do a google search and note your dogs weight, do some checking around first and make sure the antibiotic is a common given to pets. amoxicillin is common in pets "Ampicillin" don't always listen to the medical field they want you to think that there is no other way to treat many ailment that can be solved I the home.

When the dog and human drugs have the same name, there is no difference. There are a few antibiotics used in animals that are not used in humans, but for the most part animals an people use the same antibiotics.

RE:
Can you give a dog antibiotics?
My dog has a swollen mouth from an infection and I was wanting to know if I can give him them and what type of antibiotics he can have. I know they sell them at the local feed store here.

Yes you can give them antibiotics... ones prescribed by a vet.
You need to make sure that the dog really has an infection and not something else wrong with it.

Antibiotics are not over the counter drugs. There is a little thing called antibiotic resistance going on. If you didn't know many infections are cause by small bugs called bacteria. These "bacteria" multiple causing an "immune reaction" by the animals body. This results in very complicated things that need not be gone into here. Nevertheless there are certain antibiotics for certain "bacteria" and the type of bacteria must be determined before antibiotics will be given. If we just gave them however we wished there would be a day, a fast approaching day, where you will go into the hospital for an infection that would previously be treated and will now have bacteria that won't die in the presence of antibiotics. You will therefore succumb (die).

Yes, the most common antibiotic given to dogs is the same antibiotic humans take. Ampicillin. for dogs it is usually given as a liquid, with an eye dropper. the onlyu tricky part is giving the right amount for size of dog.

You need to give him what the vet gives you. You have to know the proper kind to give and the dosage. Call your vet, maybe he can prescibe something over the phone. Do not give him any human antibiotics. You may overdose him.

You can give your pet antibiotics, but you should have the vet prescribe them. You don't want to make your pet sick from medicine that they can't handle or the wrong dosage.
