Because it's not that serious of a problem and it goes away after a little while. Also it's not something that happens to you everyday, several times a day. There is so many home remedies to use: holding your breath, getting scared, eating sugar, etc.

I've got the remedy, but it sounds strange. Try it though, it works for me EVERY time.
Drink something (any fluid) from the wrong side of the cup (i.e. the one furthest from you). It means you have to bend over and tip the glass away from you... it's awkward, but it works. A few sips and they are gone! A nurse friend of mine told me about it.

By the time you'd been to the shop to buy one, the hiccups would have gone.

Please, oh Please tell me they have a pill that can make them go away. That would be so nice, I have had the hiccups for about 5 years, and I have tried everything. They are really miserable.

i wish! the only thing that works for me is drinking a cup of water upside-down. i know it sounds funny but it works, take a cup of water, bend completely over, and drink it from the opposite side of the cup. it just tricks your muscles into forgetting the spasms.

It;s a protection system that doesn't let food to go into your lungs...I don't think you want it to stop... Yet if you have a spoon of sugar it may help
