Not us, honey them. The ones that give the orders. I think you'll find most ordinary people don't want the wars. Only the leaders that know it's not them thats going to be at risk!!

You can only have peace when you are prepared for war. Why did the Soviet Union fall, when we didn't fire a shot?
We prepared our armed forces for war, and the Soviets tried to match our spending. Because we are a capitalist society, we had the money to spend. As a communist society, the Soviets didn't.
Since the industrial revolution, the side that started a war, lost. Therefore, starting a war is illogical. But there are ideologues (Islamists, for example) who want to convert the world by sword, there are nations that want something another nation has, so they try to steal it.
As long as there are human beings who want something someone else has, or want to force a change on another's society, there will be wars.
As pristine as your dream is, we will never learn to stop killing each other in pointless wars. Even now, some people who are reading this are angry at me for daring to say it. And anger is nothing more than the root of murder. Granted, they may not act it out, but the same impetus that the murderer has, is real in everyone. Anger, malice, rage, covetousness. It's all there.

Well we have had since the beggining of the human race to learn and we haven't so far. Although what annoys me most is that the majority of people feel the same way you do. So why is all the decision making down to a powerful minority?
We are all to blame for giving those people their power, if we truly lived in a democracy then no war could ever happen without a fair and democratic vote by all the people. We vote on everything else so why is the power taken out of our hands when a decision needs to be made about war. Probably because the majority of common people would not agree with the politicians because we do not have their motives.

Until the apocolypse. At that point the U.S will also learn that war is not a signing of documents and dropping nuclear bombs.
Its about fighting until the last man.The U.S will learn that Japan's failing in WW2 was because they did not want people killed. In WW3 terrorists will be everywhere even if nuclear bombs are dropped and boy will it be a big shock to the people who love stealth technology and brag about how the u.S has got the latest gear.In a war when evil is everywhere stealth technology will
never work.Fighting will be up close and personal. Not a signing
of documents for surrender or a formal law suit.

Sorry, but that's kind of what this sounds like. Anyway, the answer to your question is never. But although most everybody dislikes the idea of war, that doesn't change the fact that sometimes it is necessary. I'm reminded of something that John Stuart Mill said. And for his time, he was considered a liberal.
"War is an ugly thing. But not the ugliest thing. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling that thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man with nothing which he is willing to fight for, with nothing that he cares more about than he does his own personal safety is a miserable creature. And has no chance of being free, unless earned and maintained by the exertions of better men than himself."

The same mistakes are repeated over an over, because no one wants to admit they miscalculated every possible scenario.Korea, Vietnam, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, do you see similarities?
