I am also an atheist, and I have been for over 30 years. I define the term as a complete lack of belief in God(s), sin, soul, etc. Like you, I feel that I am respectful of everyone's beliefs, and I try to show tolerance and acceptence.
Atheists cannot be lumped into a group...we have such vast differences, no doctrine, no organization. Atheism isn't a religion or an organization. It's simply a liberating way of life.

I would say that an Atheist was a person without a belief in God. Is that true of you? I don't know how you feel about this but its just a few thoughts i have. I think sometimes people give up believing in God because life seems too terrible. Things happen sometimes that deify belief and its hard for people to accept that if God was watching then He either doesn't care at all or doesn't exist. Things go much deeper than that though. And its hard when we are personally effected by tragedy to see the positives. I believe the bible is true. It speaks of mans fall into sin and that there are many wicked influences in this world that are not from God. It also says that God has already set to restore this troubled earth to His original purpose of paradise. Seem incredible? You probably say no, it's impossible. But the bible says that the kingdom of God began ruling in heaven from 1914 and that a period of intense wickedness would take place until the way this world is ruled comes to its end. It gives many signs and prophecies that point exclusively to this generation and shows that things will not carry on as the world is today. I really believe its true what it says about this world, God, and our future. Why not look yourself at what it says at th following scriptures;
Matthew 24 - 25.
Daniel 2: 44.
2 Timothy 3:1-5
Revelations 12: 7 -12. / 21:3 - 5.
Psalms 37:10,11, 27, 28.
These are the things that i believe. It would be wrong for me to try to force you to believe what i believe. But there's nothing wrong with talking about it.

I define an atheist as one who does not believe in God. I believe that I can understand the believe of an agnostic better than an atheist, because I define agnostic as one who cannot disprove or prove that God does or does not exist, either way, and agnostic people I've known have been more open to accepting God's realness, but atheist I've known, aren't as open. I'm not judging right or wrong. I am not neither agnostic or atheist. I AM of Christian faith, very much a believer in God. I'm not saying being a non-believer is wrong. I just can't imagine ever losing my faith.

Religion is such a touchy subject.. that's why I try not to go there..
Atheism :
(ā´thē-ĭz´´m) , denial of the existence of God or gods and of any supernatural existence, to be distinguished from agnosticism, which holds that the existence cannot be proved. The term atheism has been used as an accusation against all who attack established orthodoxy, as in the trial of Socrates. There were few avowed atheists from classical times until the 19th cent., when popular belief in a conflict between religion and science brought forth preachers of the gospel of atheism, such as Robert G. Ingersoll. There are today many individuals and groups professing atheism. The 20th cent. has seen many individuals and groups professing atheism, including Bertrand Russell and Madalyn Murry O'Hair.

I have generally styled myself to be an agnostic. Since it is impossible to demonstrate whether god does or does not exist, that appelation is more appropriate than atheist, which means to believe that god does not exist. You may choose not to say that religion is wrong, but I will do so, unreservedly: it is not possible to have an accurate understanding of the universe if one posits the possiblity of supernatural intervention, as one would be unable to know whether something occurred as a result of a natural law or rather because a deity had stacked the deck. Hence, it would be impossible to discern what natural laws are, and scientific progress would be impossible.

I would define it as disbelief although some atheists want to go a step further and actively argue against the existence of God. Disbelief is good enough for me though. And I should point out that finding God isn't an issue-I completely reject the concept from an intellectual perspective.

Atheism comes from the greek A (lacking) and Theos(gods) so it means lacking gods, or the lack of belief in a god.
I'm not sure if i count as an atheist since not I actually believe there is no god. i think thats more antitheist.
The countries that have the least belief in a god seem to do better than those who believe he is on their side, so atheism cant be that bad

Athiests don't believe in a higher power. Athiests are generally very logical and scientific, but you can NOT prove a negative so yes Athiesm is wrong. Period. By science's own logical rules.
There are two situations:
#1 There is a higher power = athiests are obviously wrong.
#2 There is no higher power = athiests are STILL wrong.
You can't prove that there is no higher power. If you can't prove it then how can you think that it's not there? You have to at least admit that a higher power COULD exist. If that's so then you are an agnostic.
I am a believer and depend on others. I do not believe that I can save myself at alll. We are at least a cooperative society and belief in the individual over others will destroy the race. This recent tendency in our species to become less cooperative and more individualistic is more proof (to me at least) that Satan (and so God) does exist. We are approaching the end time. You can see it in the corruption of our world.

We are basically very rude agnostics..
Our definition basically says, "Look, I dismiss everything about your religion and its all bullshit to me."
That's why believers are don't like us, we disagree with them about their very fundamental premise. (Eg, There is an existence of God)
It's not wrong, and it's not a belief. The only belief that we have is that one day rationality will triumph over blind faith.
And it's kind of weird.. Take christianity for example, we all not the only group that think they are wrong. The Jews never saw Jesus as the 1st coming, nor did the Muslims see him as a Son of God, yet we bear the brunt when they claim that we are being disrespect to their beliefs
Perharps because we are not a religion, we are not granted this professional courtesy where each religion learns to be tolerant and live in their own fairy tale as long as they don't poke their noses into others.
We poke our nose into every single religion because we feel everyone of them is screwing up the world.

A theist is someone who believes that gods or goddesses really exist. Everyone else is therefore an atheist. I am an atheist and of course atheism is the only rationally supportable choice here.
