I too come across many useful replies flashed for questions of some subjects. How to express our appreciation?

If they are not e-mail enabled, all you can do is give a thumbs up. I sometimes put a message in a reply to the original question, but it's doubtful that the person you intend to reach will ever see it. Maybe...

It is NICE when someone who asks a question actually chooses a best answer. This gives them the opportunity to say thanks.

It is RUDE when someone does NOT pick a best answer, although sometimes the question expirations catches the asker off guard. It kills me when I write a detailed explanation in an answer and I KNOW it was correct and it was the ONLY answer and the asker doesn't get back to you. One guy had an obscure piece of darkroom equipment that I not only identified, but told him how it was used. Nobody else answered. Does this mean that I am the only person onYahoo! who could have helped him? Probably not, but I am the only one who did. You'd think that would deserve some ackowledgement from the asker...

Since I am in a rant, let me apologize if I have neglected to say thank you to my answerers, but it would be because I just didn't make it back to the computer before a question expired.

And I agree with you, ravindran _kc, I probably read more questions than I answer, just because the regulars here are so knowledgeable and helpful.

It's too bad that this "forum" has such limited capacity for interaction.

PS: I USED to be e-mail enabled, but found that I received 10-20 e-mails DAILY from people who were not satisfied with the answers they received in public in the dental section. Most of them were looney-tunes, also (haha), and I just couldn't deal with it.

First I give them a thumbs up rating. Sometimes I mention them in my answer, or in comments after the best answer is chosen. And if I'm really impressed by someone who has email enabled, I send them a quick fan note. I've only done that a couple times, though, so usually it's a thumbs up or a comment.
