Oh my God, I so love being a dude "the hive mind" guys share on matters like this is incredible LOL.
Seriously though I've actually told that its "creepy"??? to look someone in the eye for too long. But I guess its because we subconsciously (or consciously) know that women may misinterpret prolonged gazing as implied interest, and as we may not actually be interested we have a tendency not too look too long.
Or it could just be that the person is scared.

Depends if they're lying there is a lot of eye contact. If it's flirting it's mixed with approving glances of the body. If it's friendship then not that often because they're probably thinking about the football
