There is but one true God who is full of love and mercy. Salvation of our eternal soul is thru His Son, Jesus. We are able to choose or deny the love of God thru His gift to us - free will.

The Bible in a paragraph..how bout this:

God created the earth and heavens. People were wicked against God so he destroyed it with a flood, saving one person Noah. From Noah, Abraham was born who became the father of the Isralites. One of Abraham's descendants, Joseph is taken to Egypt; eventually the rest of His family and other Isralites move to Egypt. Moses frees them from the slavery in Egypt. God promised the Isralites that He will be their God if they will be His people. They agree, but do not keep their side of the bargain. Because of their unbelief, the Isralites are taken captive by Babylon, and when Persia defeats Babylon, the Isralites are allowed to return to Jerusalem. God sent Jesus, his son, to earth by a Virigin birth and Jesus taught the elders, the pharasiees. He spent his time with thieves and the downcast. Jesus was crucifed as the perfect sacrifice, as part of God's plan, so that the sins of the world could be forgiven. Three days later, he defeated death and rose again. He tells his followers to spread the good news of his life, death, and resurrection. His followers travel all over to tell them that they can find salvation in Jesus. One day, Jesus will come back. There will great tribulation in the world and a leader will arise, who will be the anti-christ. He will persecute the Christians and it will all come to a climax at the battle of Armegeddon (sp?) where the good and evil will meet. At that moment, Jesus will come back in the clouds and defeat Satan and the anti-christ. At that time, a new Heaven and a new Earth will come down and His followers will spend eternity in the New Jerusalem, where the is no pain, no tears, and no suffering.

An in-depth, often repetitive, vague, and mildly threatening mixture of life lessons, ancient history and flat-out mythological stories based on the power of a supreme being and his son manifested in men and women throughout time, which was authored by men to help followers be good and not evil, and to give them hope when they have no other source or reason to believe there is a point in living.

The biggest points? Churches sure are rakin' in the dough!

The main theme of the bible is God's Kingdom. You can read about this Kingdom in the book of Daniel chapter 2 verse 44. "And in the days of those kings the God of heavens will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms and it itself will stand to times indefinite."

I see it as a cruch for those who are afriad to face the truth, that there may not be an after life. Also to piont out all the plot holes, no wonder it is called holy. Third that it is all "hear say" would not stand up in court. Last, those people are crazy and stupid, a burning bush that talks like that not satanic, offering you child as a sacrfice, selling your brother as a slave, there's your devil-god.
at least the other gods gave us heros.
after reading some of the answers, oh my ,it a cult book

The Bible is God's Word, the greatest story ever told!

The bible reflects an ego image of God and Jesus, where both are made into what people's ego/human thought systems want them to be. Jesus' original message and God's unconditional love have been almost completely eradicated and we're left with something that fits our human thought system of striving for something, doing good for reward and avoiding punishment, etc.

The concept of "god" is one thing. The bible quite another.

I would sum up the bible as "chauvinistic mythology promoted as absolute truth."
