This was a whole pound of bacon that was wrapped in paper then rolled up and fit into a round can. I would really like to find any such product that would even be similar.

That is a great product and you can find it in the specialty section of some stores...also Dak makes a similar product. I found some at Safeway a while back...try there!

Even though it's canned, I don't think I'd eat twenty-five year old bacon.
But seriously, I've seen precooked vacuum packed bacon strips in grocery stores and even tried it once. It tastes okay, is convenient, and great if you just need a strip or two for a sandwich. It's not fried completely crisp, so you can use it in cooking too.
In a pinch, you might buy some Spam.
