Does anyone ever remember Labour complaining and pontificating abut The Conservatives 22 tax hikes in the late 70's to early 90's?
They ranted and raved about how the Tories were bleeding us dry then the second they got into power they hit businesses with a huge stealth tax and every year thereon have found more and more ways of sucking the average guy dry. The tax hikes since Nu-Labour have taken power shows Labour should be outed at the next election and never voted back in as they haven't got a clue what they are doing. And..... thanks to the Governors Witch with her "Human rights" act we are slowly being sent to hell on a hand-cart.
They also intend to charge people with 4x4's for parking outside their own houses!! It is completely un-believable how money grabbing and conceited the Labour party under Tony B-Liar are and they would put Robin Hoods legendary "Sheriff of Nottingham" to shame...
Have you also noticed how Labour under Tony B-Liar have given up most of the UK's decision making and laws to Brussels and even trying to scrap the Pound...........
NO....THE LABOUR PARTY UNDER TONY BLAIR IS NO GOOD FOR THE UK AND THE SOONER THEY ARE OUT THE BETTER FOR ALL.......
Soapbox speech now ended...
Many thanks for the question.....
Graham

I don't like the council tax either, but it is part of the tax regime needed to fund the country's budget. Sadly, if you take it away, taxes will only be raised and taken from us another way. And whilst this is a democracy and we can vote Labour out at next election, it is probable that the conservatives will tax us in a pretty similar fashion.
The fact is that the cost of living is too high here. Whilst we get carried away with pushing upo house prices, it means over 50%-60% of our salaries goes towards meeting housing, bills, and rent. That is what leaves our pockets empty and less to spend on the economy.
If you reduce taxes, then you also reduce the state system. That means you need to pay more for services so it's swings and roundabouts. However, the middle classes do seem to suffer the worse. They utilise less of the welfare state, but pay for most of the taxes. It is time for the Governments to think up a fairer system, and part of that is tackling the future cost of living.

At the last general election only 59% of the electorate voted that is the lowest turn out since I think just after World War 1. So in fact the reason we have the goverment we have is due to electoral apathy. But i find it laughable that people in Britain are moaning about taxes when we have some of the lowest taxes in Europe outside of Switzerland, Luxembourg and Andorra. Many of our European partners are paying 50 60 and 70% income tax to support their socialist nations, their welfare states their unemployment benefits. But in the UK we have many things for free, such as health care, social care etc. If we were to pay for the full value of what we get I think we would pay a lot more taxes than we already pay.

I have wondered the same thing. These politicians drive me mad. I work a 52 hour week to pay their wages, when they get paid more than 10 times what I do per year, and then they tax me left, right and centre so I have to save up to take the bus to the underpaid job which pays their wages....We should have a new Peasants' revolt!! Also, I live on going to Sainsburys at the end of the day and buying all the reduced items for like 99p. It's not easy.

I agree, I just seem to work to pay taxes, re-assessing the value of our houses that we have worked hard to buy and make comfortable, is just another excuse for the government to take yet more money off us. We are taxed on everything, even the little money I can save is taxed.
I know we need to pay some tax for the NHS, Schools etc, but if the politicians were not over paid, and did not abuse their expenses, and we did not have to pay for their mistakes, like invading Iraq, and lax immigration policies, taxes could be lower.
New Labour are Tories at heart

I totally agree with you. We live in a society were people now know the cost of everything but the value of nothing.
Lets send a clear message to the scum in our society who as a minority make the lives of the majority miserable. "Keep your house and the neighnourhood you live a Sh*t hole and you wont have to pay much council tax, but if you live in a decent area were people are bothered, you'll have to pay more.
Typical labour party!! I wont be voting for them again.

The only way to stop it is by not voting for a stupid, money grabbing government in the first place !
Are any of the other idiots offering any better.
Its easy money and you're right we are stupid for paying it.
But they've got us all, cos if you don't pay they lock you up and shaft you for more f***ing money.
It is discusting, maybe you should start a new fair party for us to vote for. If it does not screw over us hard workers and babysit the idol then i'd vote !!!
