as The Great Hole of Canada in the ocean? My son has just had a nightmare about it and we want to make sure it's not real. Ta.

Well, actually there is such a thing, but not technically in the ocean. It's called the Manicouagan crater , located in northern Quebec. 70 Km across a lot of it submerged. The other that is closer to an ocean and is the deepest lake in Quebec (270 m)is the Pingualuit Crater, again northern Quebec, but right on the tip of the Ungava Penninsula,
These are about as close as you come to what you're referring to.
In the ocean itself, only one really comes to mind and that's the Blue Hole, in the Caribbean, off of central america.

great hole?? never heard of it. canada borders both atlantic and pacific ocean.. then again, so does the USA. our waters by the coast are generally safe to swim in. but they will get cold outside of the summer time!
