when compared to the religious nutters who killed 50% more so called "witches" by burning them to death (in most cases). Although I obviously most emphatically condemn what happened to the Jews under the Nazis, 9 million people died for no crime other than being suspected of witchcraft. In the fullness of time, when the scars of what Hitler did have healed (there are still many people alive who remember the times of these atrocities) will it just be discarded as historical fact, like the witch hunts are now? Or will people still hate the Nazis? And if so, why don't we hate Christians now for the deaths of 9 million women?
(Sorry if I offended anyone with the question, just want some sort of heartfelt reaction to a genuine question, I'm intrigued...)

Sick puppy - 6,000,000 + 50% of 6,000,000 is 9,000,000
Born again Christian - I do know what it means to be a Christian, it means following the teachings of Christ, of which I am familiar. Part of my point is that both now, and historically, Christians have failed to know what it means to be a Christian.

Bill - I didn't come on Yahoo answers to "Shut the f*ck up!" now, did I? And you missed the point really. Would I tell you to shut the f*ck up and stop asking Zen for the under 5's type questions on here? No. So, kindly afford me the same courtesy, and please don't suggest that I'm trying to put a scale of culpability on two obviously horrific atrocities, I wasn't comparing them, I was looking to see what peoples attitudes were, as I said in the question, it was meant to be slightly contentious, hence only typing in up to "is that bad..." on the question. So I'm obviously not a Christian, big deal. I don't much like hate either, that emotion is reserved purely for celery. I don't hate anyone, nor do I wish for anyone else to hate anyone. Apart from you, obviously :o)

Oh and Shoe S - Yes, your reply was so unintelligent and bigoted that I just gave it a bad rating so I didn't have to look at it, and so forgot to tell you to go get a life, travel a bit, read some books, do something other than what you're doing, 'cos you're obviously in need of something. F*ckhead.

You are miles behind. More than 250 million have been killed in the last 50 years by
abortion.
But that is OK because we are civilised and not religious.

9 million eh? That some serious murdering. But that's the history of Christendom. Remember though that a Christian is a person who follows christ. None of the above did. Just like many today claim they love peace and act in a brutal and merciless manner. Incidentally, the pope at the time of WW2 was on the Nazi's side. Most likely knew exactly what was going on. But in the time honored tradition of Christendom, they went along with what was popular and didn't rock the boat.

Killing is NOT right whether u kill one or 100 or a million.
Jews died in that war was part of many cuz it was a war time.
Jews now killing Palestenians day and night.
Even kids on the beach gotten killed by Jews in palestine in the 21st Century.
The Question is How many did the Jews in Israel had killed so far.
Neither a child nor a blind man in a wheelchair has escaped the Israeli machine gun.
Cheers

The Christian church (or most of it anyway, I'm sure there are still nuts out there) condemned the witch hunts. The Nazi's still try to kill jews. They still have the ignorance and hate. It's about seeing the wrong you have done and being sorry. Good question and no offence taken.

remeber history is written by the winners
as long as someone is recording it, these tales and factss will never be forgotten but people will never know the ENTIRE truth. As there never eems to be the story from both sides how will we ever know what is the truth? This will also continue to be the case into the future. How are we to stop historians in hundreds of years time completyl mis interperting the things we write today

you are utterly correct in condemning those responsible for both onslaughts. However, are you familiar with Dietrich Bonhoeffer? While the State's Lutheran church stood with the Nazis, Bonhoeffer and others created the "Confessing Church," which stood against Hitler and even participated in an attempt to assassinate him. Bonhoeffer was imprisoned and hanged for this. The most interesting part is not what he did, but the way he reshaped Christian thought in the process. He wrote several books, one of which is titled "Ethics." I recommend it heavily.

Senseless murder is bad no matter who or where. The most horrific thing about the Nazi's murdering, not only Jews, but homosexuals, gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses, handicapped or mentally ill, etc, was the methodical systematic way in which it was done. Much like what happened in Rwanda and is happening in lots of other countries at this very minute.

Unfortunately society doesnt seem to care about the past.
It makes Orwell's 1984 seem possible.
Yes if people dont pay more attention to it the holocaust will just become another historical fact.
Of course the sad part is that it is true "We must learn from history, or repeat it."
I wonder who will be next..... : (
