My nephew is bowlegged and my sister refuses to take him to the Doctor to check him out, and I asked my CHKD if he might be autistic and she said he might be. He's 16 months and drools a lot, hasn't said one word yet, and can't hold a cup. How do I talk to my sister and get her out of denial and get my nephew medical attention?

because of your sister's denial of the problems that her son faces the only recourse you might have would be to contact your counties health and human services department. If he is bowlegged your nephew will need special braces and if he is truly autistic he is missing out on a lot of help. children who are diagnosed autistic early in their life need special help and most counties offer a birth to 3 program which will give him special education, speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy that he needs, at a very low or nothing cost to your sister. she maybe in denial because she doesn't know or want to deal with a child with disabilities all this is affecting the life of your nephew and if his mother is afraid to do it, then someone in your family needs to immediately...
I wish you the best and I hope you have the strength and determination to do what is best for your nephew even if it means going against your sister.

Simple. Sit her down, or set up an appointment with a doctor without her knowing it, tell them you're taking them to lunch or something and go to the doctor's office. She might be in denial... she's probably afraid of what the truth is... I know I would be.

If she won't go along with the above, try telling her you want to watch him and take him to the doctor yourself... If she loves her son, she'll wanna know what's wrong....

Good Luck

I agree with the first answer if you tried talking to your sister and she just won't listen to you.
or maybe you could try talking to her husband maybe he could talk some sense into her.

talk to her seriously...tell her if she loves her child it's worth checking out...if he has autism he needs definite medical attention...it's not fair to the baby
