I've seen benefits to both. But I think that what God looks at is the inner workings of the heart. So when I think of the church building/place of worship as the house of God, I think that he looks at the inner workings.
I've seen God at work in the most majestic of buildings and other times he works in the most plain and spartan locations.
So, as long as the place of worship draws people to God, all types of places can be a place of worship.

what did Jesus do and say when he walked into the temple and he saw the lavishly dressed men and the money changers?
you know the answer to this one already.
it should serve the purpose of a place of worship, but be plain..why ask for money and then spend it on GOLD to dress the walls.
good luck
and
God Bless

I don't think it matters, just so Christ is glorified through word and prayer. That the bible is taught, and the people there are led in God's word....it doesn't matter to God if someone is standing in Westminster Abbey praising His name, or out in the dirt of some back road in the middle of nowhere; what God looks for is a heart devoted to Him.

God doesn't focus on your place of worship. He reads your heart wherever you are. It's sincere worship, sincere love, the sincere need for him that he responds to. It's wise to be clean and respectful and to keep your place of worship clean but it's YOU he responds to. God is not interested in the decor around you. It doesn't impress him one bit. God is only interested in your sincerity and your relationship with him, not your surroundings.

The place is not important as long as it is repectful (ie. not while on the toilet).
It is the condition of the heart and they way you approach God that is important.
God looks for humility in people rather than the decoration of a room.

I think it should reflect the community. If the area is snazzy, then the church can be snazzy. If the area is poor, it would only breed resentment if the church was this palace. What matters is that it is a place to gather and get your God-thing on.

It doesn't have to be any of the above. A place of worship could be a garden, in your car, in your bed, on your porch. Buildings don't impress God, THEY IMPRESS PEOPLE. We are to worship in Spirit and in Truth----- God Bless
