It depends on you, what your goals are and whether you have the discipline to reach those goals. However, that does sound like an awful lot of money to me.

It all depends! If you live say for example in La Jolla, CA, it may be the going rate. IF so, check out references to make sure he or she is certified as a trainer.
Now let's do the math. $1200 over 2 months is $600 per month. If this person worked an average of 1 hour per day with you (7 hours per week), then this would be equivalent to about $20/hour (based on a 30 day month) which seems reasonable.
However, I would think that there is only so much that can be done in a short time such as two months. I find that most people who hire a trainer, would want a longer lasting relationship. Therefore, it it were me, I would want to spread that time out over say 12 months for the same price. This means only 10 hours per month, but the benefit is that in order to maintain long lasting results, one must make lifestyle changes, and STICK to them! A trainer, in the long run, might help in that regard. Good luck

Assess yourself. Are you disciplined enough to do it all by yourself?...If you answer no then go ahead and get the personal instructor.
Sometimes the money you pay for the personal instructor is worth it because it always brings result because you will make sure that you get value for your money.
Good day!

The only way that it would be worth it is if you will actually take something away from it. Will it be a program you can stick with without the trainer? If not, then it is not worth it.

I would try it on my own first, making simple and healthy choices, and if that doesn't seem to work, I would get a trainer. You can join the Denise Austin workout thing. You can get simple exercising routines and recipes right in your email inbox. That's all free too!

if you've got a mind of your own - all the information that you need is readily available to one and all. So no it's not worth it - but if you fancy having some beefy guy around you for a few months - well go ahead and pay for it!

No that is a rip off. You can actually go to a nutritionist through your doctor for FREE, providing you have medical ins, and they will let you know what is best for you. As for exercising, if you want to bulk up you do some weight training and cardio, if you want to tone up do some cardio and light weights.
